Wink New SRT 10 road and strip test

This is an article in a weekly feature section of the paper. Its called My Day At the Races. He tests cars for a living and you should see his results/conclusions. The article is too big to copy, so just do a search on google for LA Times Highway 1. I won't give it away but lets just say "enjoy"

Right Certified. But we also compete and it doesn't hurt to know something about the competition.

Is 6 mph worth $12,000.00 ??? I dont know, hell I've only gone 132mph in my Lightning and that was on a dyno. I can tell you that if a *****10 pulls up next to me all he's going to see is my tail lights going bye bye. and I'll still have enough money to by gas for another year, for what he paid he the *****10.

He didn't even paticularly like it on the street. Ive read elswhere that it rides pretty rough.
And thank you for your post superfords. It took me a lot of self restraint not to knee jerk react to that uncalled for rude attack that you also noted.

Its kinda like the Metro-Festiva race story, very descriptive.

NO, no, no...see low 14's are great. Trust me, that track could possibly be the worst in the country. I believe it is at 3x00 ft elevation. Any stock or near stock lightning that runs there HOPES, and wishes for low 14's. If u get low 14's with a lightning there, you definitely did something right.... so i give the driver and the truck mad props...good job.

never been to the track, but a wild guess would be the elevation is at 2659 feet.

Actually its at 2,710...which is definitely high for it to be a 'good' strip. You are supposed to multiply ur ET by .97 and ur mph by 1.03 to get it to a normal elevation. That would make it 13.774 @ 101.97. That is what stock lightnings pull off. And for not that great of a driver on his first visit to the strip, i said that aint too shabby. I understand that there are lightnings that have pulled off 13.4x on their first runs ever, but im sure there will be more stock srt-10's that will be pulling off better times than stock lightnings.

It really sounds like the guy doesn't know how to launch a high horsepower truck on radial tires with a manual transmission at the strip. How could he expect to limit wheel spin by launch at 4,500 rpm?

Good article. I figured they would have issues shifting with such a large shifter. You would think that the design engineers would have thought about something like that.

I like
EPA fuel rating: 10 miles per gallon city, 15 mpg highway
I can't imagine what it really gets. The Lightning is rated at 13/17 MPG and I get between 10 and 13. I think once on all highway cruising I got as high as 14 once
