Is the 03-04 fog lights made better than the previous ones. My 01 fog lights have been replaced once, due to cracking/overheating?

i have an 03, and one of my fogs got moisture in it last weekend. i have had silverstars for a few months, and love them. after washing the L last weekend, i notice about .75" of water inside the fog light housing. within a day or so, my silverstar in that one blew, i think because it go moisture on the bulb.

I've had my SilverStar bulbs in the headlights and foglights of my '03 L for over 8 months now. I do lots of driving at night with both the headlights and foglights on. (I have the moded the light switch) I run with both on so I can see the deer more easily out on the country roads. I used the lights all last Summer. I have 10,000 miles on the SilverStars and no problems with them whatsoever.

Had my 03 lightning for roughly 4 months. Had both foglighhts blow and lenses crack and one headlight blow last night. Is it worth the $100 to buy bulbs??

I haven't had a headlight go out, yet. I switched to Silverstars in the headlights about 1 yr ago. I like them. .Just installed the Silverstars in the Foglights a couple of days ago. My fog light lenses look good, we'll see how they hold up with the Silverstars.
Maybe they will burn cooler than the stock bulbs..

Personally, I think what you report in regard to your L and bulbs / lenses is the exception and not the rule. My guess is your problems were not related to heat but water / moisture related. Indeed, get those fogs submersed in water and the bulbs will undoubtedly blow and the lenses lenses might crack also...

As for the SilverStars they can be had for less then $100 and they are better then the stock bulbs. Be sure to keep your fingers off the bulbs when/if you install halogen bulbs.

I got my Silverstars off ebay, both sets for $60 shipped.

My fogs havent blown out and mine are living in a fish bowl. My lenses are cracked and discolored and the metal deals inside have fallen to the bottom of the fog light assembly. Yet they still burn bright. This is even after 4 months of use.

The older style foglights on your '01 L are known to be problematic and numerous complaints about them can be found on various L related websites.

I need to hear some other people respond to this...I thought the 01, 02, 03, 04 are the same?

Frank, For the most part it seems the new style fogs in the '03' L's are pretty reliable. Probably the biggest thing to remember is don't submerse them. Like anything else electrical, if you get wet let completely dry out before turning on. So, avoid those flooded streets.. 8-)

WARNING

Dont put the silverstars in your foglights

Then take it to the dealership to warranty the cracked foglamps and a week later realize they not only replaced your foglamps but also replaced your fog lights with originals!!!!!

ARGGGGGGHHH that still makes me mad!!!!
