I really couldn't say. I'd like for them to be tested on the same day, at similar conditions, to see what the true difference is though. For better or for worse.

Kudos to Dodge BTW. What's more cool than a Viper motor in a pickup truck?

That purple one doesn't look too bad. I wonder why they don't offer purple as one of the color options?

Thumbs up GEN 3 LIGHTNING WILL BE 165+ STOCK

From what some are saying about the production of the lightning with 500+ horsepower and its gear ratio will top 165 stock i wish they would make some of them with automatic transmissions.

Hey Tex, you're gonna rile folks ups posting pictures like this. (good job, hehe) Where the hell were you able to get it at? One of the Dodge web sites maybe?

Kudos to Dodge...it is still cool as hell.

I know this is what we all still think, regardless:

lets see, it goes 155mph, gets 3mpg, doesn't tow or haul anything, and all they can make are being scooped up and people are paying dealer adjustment on top of the 50K (out the door) price. ever wonder why most of this planet wants to keep us in the double secret jihad mode, or something

Wow, a site of sore losers, who would've thunk it. At least welcome the competition, and be a man about it. They have the fastest truck out there, no need for further excuses and justifications. RUSLOW didn't have his truck at his speed within a month of the L's first coming out. It's just further incentive for Ford to come out with something bigger and better.

Just think, if the SRT-10 was only 400HP, SVT would've gotten by with producing a 420HP truck. Now that it's 500HP and 154MPH, the bar is raised higher, and we all win.

Heh, Dodge just put Ford into the false advertising realm...

http://www.svt.ford.com/vehicleLightning.asp

Hmm... Do I feel a major management decision coming on?

Change the website... or... Roll the new Generation Lightnings off the production line next week?

cool

the gen 3's are gonna be super sick now.

Hey, good for them, they may have the fastest, but we still have the quickest and I know there aint anywhere around here were gonna hit 150 mph, so let's just keep stamping these trash trucks "owned"!!!!!!

Just wondering, would the 2000's top out at a higher speed then the 03's?? I know there's a hp difference but what about the rear gear difference??

WTF?

Temp1:

All rightie then...

If you look at the commonly reported empirical equations for rolling resistance...

Recognize that "empirical" means "fit to a pile of data", not "derived from scientific first priciples"...

A 5500-pound vehicle, at any speed (actually less at high speed due to aerodynamic lift, but...) has about 72 pounds of rolling resistance (this is the only place that weight comes into play and it's not a function of vehicle speed).

The total resistance (aero drag plus rolling resistance) that exactly balances (estimated) 425 RWHP at 155 MPH is 891 pounds. That's 72 pounds of rolling resistance (a function of weight, but not a function of speed) 819 pounds of aero resistance (a function of speed, but not weight).

A those kinds of speeds, IT'S ALL ABOUT THE AERO DRAG AND ENGINE OUTPUT!

Put 500 pounds of sand in the bed and you increase the total drag by 6.5 pounds, or about 0.7 percent! Effectively NOTHING.

You seem like a bit of a stalker.

Not to worry. Just tell all the Lightning owners to stay on the back roads and OFF the INTERSTATES...

Remember the lightning is still the king of trucks comparing trucks to trucks the lightning v-8 vereses v-10 is still king one run in july the other in feb i wouldn't trade my lightning for one just wait till the new lightning arrives.
