Long Tube Question
Long Tube Question
Hi. This question is for anyone who has long tubes already and knows from experience if there is any loss in torque or horsepower. I just saw MISTERgadget's video and after hearing his truck, I must have the complete Long Tube/ high flow cats with Magnaflow catback exhaust. I would be putting this system on an 03 Lightning that has only an AIRAID Intake. I do not want to put a pulley or chip on the truck. All I want to do is the Long Tube setup with the AIRAID I already have. Before I spend all of this money though, I would like to know if any of you have experinced any loss of torque. Thanks in advance for any info/advice.
Long tubes rock
I put JDM/Kooks long tubes and Magnaflow high flow cats with the S/S mid pipes that exit in the stock location and I have the Bassani cat-back setup the sound is UNREAL the JDM spec headers fit so well that I didden't even have to bend my EGR tube to reinstall it you will only need to trim the heat shields to allow for the Ox2 sensors they came with Ox2 extenders, bolts and gaskets. However I opted to use the factory studs where poss and the factory metal gaskets (just my choice) The left header goes right up from the bottom (was on jack stands no lift) the right header will go in from the wheel well after removing the inner fender and the two ac accumulator bracket nuts there is no need to remove the starter or the wiring from the starter just temp. take the 10mm bolt out of the starter wiring harness bracket, move the harness and accumulator aside and they slide right in. Do yourself a favor a go ahead and get the ALL Stainless setup cause over time the J/H coated ones can rust and burn out from inside. Like the tiger says" THERE GREAT"
As is stated above, the more air you're forcing into the motor, the more the LT's will help. The sound is incredible, be it with Bassani, or Magnaflow...they both sound wicked.
Is it worth it? IMHO...yes it is, ESPECIALLY if you have plans to bump up the boost (to 13psig or more), or install a ported, or aftermarket blower on the truck in the future.
In reference to putting them on an otherwise stock truck...the gains will be minimal, BUT you should NOT lose anything in terms of HP or Torque. Hope this helps.

Do they leak?, Burn up the gaskets? bolts come loose? Do I need to get my chip reburned? sorry for the Q's but....

they supposedly make you run a bit richer but no reburn is really necessary unless you are trying to squeeze out every last bit. you can get breslin bolts or stage 8s to keep them from leaking. i reused the stock layered metal gaskets because you cant burn those up like the crappy paper ones kooks give you
I have the Dynatech longtubes, high flow cats and single Magnaflow (internal x pipe) cat back installed at REM. No loss other than boost, one pound.
Not a big deal, glad to know effeciency is the name of the game with the highflows and my KB.

SVTsinster- I think adding headers without any chip or pulley is a waste. In fact headers would be one of my last mods on a lightning.A chip and pulley will give you much more power than a header system. In fact I think you will be very dissapointed to say the least.I know what I'm talking about.Headers are only a benefit when used with other mods.I can name you a few trucks that are running mid to high 12's without headers.$1500 is a lot of money for very little gains without these other mods.If you like the sound save your money and go with a cat-back like mrgadget and I both have. Its the magnaflow ctaback. Its like $389 or something. You'll thank me later.
