Dodge SRT-10 attempting to break speed record
Dodge SRT-10 attempting to break speed record
Found this information over on a Nascar news website:
Gaughan looks to go faster: Driving a 2004 Dodge Ram SRT-10 powered by a Dodge Viper engine, Brendan Gaughan [driver of the #77 Kodak Dodge] will attempt to break the record of 147 mph set last August by a Ford SVT F-150 Lightning at the Chelsea Proving Grounds in Michigan. "The speed they told me that we have to do -- even I was nervous," Gaughan, a NASCAR Nextel Cup rookie, said Thursday. "It's a stock pickup truck, right off the factory line. The record is 149 or something like that and we're going to beat that ... and I've been told we'll beat it very easily." To qualify for the record and certification by Guinness World Records, the truck must be identical to what a customer can find at a local Dodge dealer. Gaughan's speed will be measured over a kilometer, and the record speed is derived from an average of his speeds in both directions on the 4.71-mile, high-speed oval.(Las Vegas Sun)(1-31-2004)

The new Dodge truck stick shift "mascot edition" **** (Cause ya know something is gonna blow up).
They don't need a shift pattern for finding second now.
They just told the guy to rev up the engine, stick it in 5th, pop the clutch and let the 500 horses do the rest...

you know what? that Dodge is going to need every ounce of power it can muster to make that kind of speed.
The front end of that thing has got to be like pushing a brick wall through the air at 150.......I think there are some 18 wheelers that have less aero problems than that mess has.

i really dont know if that puppy is gonna pull off that 150 mph. Im sure theoretically that thing would have a higher top end then our trucks, but i dont know about that drag coefficent.

potential Gen3 buyers better hope the SRT10 breaks some of the Gen2 records, or our new truck is going to arrive with 390hp or something. all we hear and see now is missed shifts, burnt clutches, replacement engines. nothing that is going to push up the arrival date of our 500hp blown supertruck
then maybe dodge should put the viper motor in the Dakota
And while Dodge is at it, they should put their hot shoe, Brendan Gaughan, on the Tomahawk. The Viper powered bike, and see what the top end is on that

MISTERgadget....that was funny as hell. It kinda pisses me off that Dodge is immediately trying to break the record that we just set. I am sure that they will break the record but that Viper motor has to shine somewhere right. That SRT can't accelerate, costs at least $12,000 more and has the usual Chrysler lack of quality. We must also remember that Dodge has just now begun to compete with a truck that's been around since 99 and they have barely brought a challenge. So fine....let them have the speed record. They're just gonna have to give it back when the GEN III comes out then maybe it'll be another five years after that before they make another competetor. They are already using their baddest engine now. What's next? There won't be a next. Dodge sucks!
with aerodynamics being the responsibilty of the designer of any company marketing the "fastest truck in the world", and all other things being equal, how much faster should the Dodge be, with the additional 120 advertised hp

for it here in San Jose CA.
