The new Lightning will be very heavy
The new F-150 is a great truck but as per Car and Driver in a comparo test it is very heavy. In the configuration used in the test it was over 6000lbs. Heavier than anything out there, even the Dodge.
This much bigger truck translates into a 2 door Lightning nearly 600lbs heavier than the Gen 2. Even considering 550 hp, the power to weight ratio won't be much better than the current unit. For road racing lighter weight is always better. In a straight line, the gen 2, gen 3 and the Dodge SRT-10 will be closely matched. Don't expect a gigantic leap in performance in the Gen 3.
Hopefully, Ford will find a way to reduce the weight, but this is one big truck.

These weight issues confuse me at times. Is that GVW or curb weight?
I used to read posts about our "6000 lb trucks" and I weighed mine on a scale, and my 2001 Screw only weighed 4700 and some change with 3/4 tank of gas.

I cannot understand where all this weight comes from.Have you see n the new a-arms? They look cheezy and light as a feathere.Ive seen beefier ones on honda accords. They should definatly shorten the cab, that will lose a few. There are ways to lighten it up. I dont want no heavy mack.

Sounds to me like that scale was a little off bud. Lightnings weigh in at more then that with a driver. Especially if your Super Crew was a 4x4. -Mat-
Well, I just double checked by reading KBB.com's specs on the 2003 SCREW, and it shows the following numbers for the SCREW (It doesn't list the 2001 anymore)
Curb weight: 4686
......................5036
GVWR : 6350
.............6500
I dont know why there are 2 weights listed for both categories.
So as far as the curb weight goes, that 4686 listed is pretty close to my weight on scales of 4700 and change.
BTW mine is 2wd and the 4.6l.
