I'm not a road racer, so I don't have any idea which would win.

I've got a mostly stock '01 L, with a 2" shackle drop in the rear.

The opponent would be my friend in a stock '96 t-bird, v-8 with the "sport" package. I believe it has stock 16" wheels with some mid-range goodyear "performance" tire, 225 width.

He claims with the t-birds lower center of gravity that it would eat up the L.

 

Given equivalent drivers, the L would win. Yes, the T-bird has a lower CG and it lighter, but it is very softly sprung, not a lot of body control, the rear suspension flat out sucks, and it's not very powerful.

I wouldn't think it would even be a fun race to watch.

Not even close. My buddy's got a 96 stock 4.6 T-bird, and that thing is a pig. Its only got speed on the highway but down low, its slow as shyt. There would be no comparison, L would eat that thing alive.
