Why couldnt you just tint the windows rather than replace them ??

I haven't personally checked into the tint laws in my province but I do know it's illegal to have the film on your windows because when you get into an accident the glass doesn't shatter into bits but makes big shards. I just got a ticket that reads: drive a vehicle with substance applied to windows ($130 CAN!) with my Thunderbird
I will be checking in with the Mounties before I buy though for sure.
