Rim screws?

Who had to screw their rim to their slicks to keep the rim from turning around the tire? After you did, did it effect your 60' and how much? I just did mine tonight. Took about 2 hours. I used 16 screws per wheel.

I had to do this to mine. My 60's are still running 1.63-1.66. My times or MPH did not suffer at all.

My tires did however.....quit fricking spinning on my wheels. I had some runns where I would start with 17lbs of air...and then get to the pits and find my pressure as low as 4-6lbs. It is real sweet to not have to constantly add air to my tires. I did 8 on each side of each tire........It works great.

I'm a little confused here. Screws in your rim. WTF keeps the screws from puncturing the tire or causing an air leak?

Mart Man you want the screw in the tires to keep the tire from spinning on the ri. The tires have tubes in them so no air will leak(slicks)

I get it now. I didn't know that slicks used tubes. Guess I've been around radial tires too long. I feel kind of like a d**K for asking now. :o

Your screwing the slicks at the bead of the tire, it is actually in front of where the rim and tire make the seal.

Tubes in my slicks? Who has those?

I was going to put some screws on the inside of my rims only. I have Hoosier Quick Time Pro's.

Right, you don't need tubes as long as you do it right.

Guy's thanks for the comments on my L.

WRONG!!!!........."Doing it right" is not the issue. It depends on the wheels you are using and even the ones that you can get away without tubes...ALL...recommend using tubes.

Some folks get away with short cutting by not using tubes. This fact does not mean it is the proper way to mount the tire.

It saves you 25 bucks a tire and nothing else.(you don't run quicker, tubeless)

Having tubes will help to reduce the risk of sudden tire failure while your blasting down the track.

To add to what Rocks said, Tubes also prevent tires from leaking due to low pressure. (Has nothing to do with rim spinning or not) The main advantage is the tail end doesnt feel as loose with tubes than it does without them.
