Arrow Thinking about buying a Lightning

Well, some dumb woman in an SUV totaled my GTP.

So I am thinking about maybe getting an L as my new daily driver instead of another GTP. I can't afford insurance on an 01 so I would have to get a 99.

I understand that there was a problem w/the intercoolers not sealing properly? Was there a recall for this? Any other recalls for 99?

Any other problems with 99s?

Also, what were all the options available on 99 Lightnings?

The ones I see in my area are anywhere from $24k to $20k with 40k miles down to about 20k miles on them.

Any and all info on what to look for etc etc etc is appreciated.

Yes there was a recall for the leaky intercoolers on the 99's. I believe the time has expired to have that done, so make sure any 99 you plan to buy has had the recall done already.

First thing I would look for is any evidence of mods. Unless your comfortable buying a previously modded vehicle I would search hard for a stock one. That way you know it hasn't been beat as hard as a modded one. Not to say stock trucks don't get a beating, but you know what I mean.

Redundant....

One other issue the pre '03's had was blowing spark plugs. Do a search here and find out about the problem so you can be prepared to ask questions.

These trucks are thoroughbreds, they were made to run. I have seen stock Lightnings that were not taken care of. If my truck was on the market someone would be getting a "Damn Fine", very fast, well maintained vehicle. Just my 2 cents. You can spot a well maintained vehicle that has been modified. Anyhow..Good-Luck in your search. Your going to love being the owner of "The Fastest Production Truck" in the universe
