99 staying lean to long

hello all, i have a big problem. truck is running way lean when i punch it, we hooked up a sniffer and monitored the mixture ratio. the outcome was at a steady roll of the thottle the air/fuel decreased and ran flawless. when we punched it we found it staying real lean for too long, then it would finally richen up and run. but it shudders and now is popping a bit in the richening process. we cleaned mass air, changed injectors, 40psi fuel pressure, new plugs, with chip/without chip. any takers on this one?

40 psi at WOT doesnt sound right. I know the 99's had a problem with the line coming off in the fuel tank on the pump. MIhgt be something to look into. Have you ever changed the fuel filter?

hey all, thanks for the reply. been out of town for a couple days so pardon me for late reply.
i didnt check the fuel pressure myself so i couldnt tell u. but my friend did and he had to make a guage and run it in the cab and then he drove it. it was way low so he changed the ffilter and it helped some but not enough. so he pulled the vacume line off the fuel regulator and it went from 35 to 40 at idle and held it when driving.
ive never heard the one on the line in the tank but that could be worth looking into for sure. i only have 6000 miles on the unit. the guy working on it was the previous owner and performed the mods before i bought it. he is johnny lightnings competition paul duckett so he knows some stuff and the truck screamed before the problem started. he didnt even have 1000 miles on it when i purchased it this last summer.

please tell me you didn't go into boost without the vacumm line on the regulator???? you probably fried a few spark plugs and fried the valves. plug all the plugs asap. look them over.

pointrow,

Get your lines inside the tank checked out at your Fav FORD dealership. While it's there have your computer reflashed to a CUX2.....

Now start from there. I know you will love the reflash...had mine done along time ago and my truck ran much better with chips for the CUX2 than when the truck was an CUX1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My 2 cent.

Hey pointrow, I am from Corning and I was wandering where you got your a/f checked. If someone in Bluff has a sniffer let me know if I can get mine checked.

The mechanic at my Dealer knows not to reflash my computer. I think the CUX 1 is better.

All I can say is this. I had all kind of problems with chips on my CUX-1.....had it flashed to a CUX-2. Man what a big change. On the CUX-1 I had detonation problems. I had flyer miles on the chips that I was mailing all over the county!!!! By accident I had my truck in for service and the tech re-flashed my computer to the CUX-2. Started to use my friend's chips from his 2000 and I have never looked back!!

Also get the lines checked, and like I said get the re-flash...Ford has a TSB for the re-flashed.

Herb
