The lakewoods are OK. A little noisy over the bumps but work well otherwise. If you look at the pics that RED 92 posted you'll notice that it looks like the rear bracket makes contact with the steel brake lines. At least it did on my 8.8 rearend.

I took some clear silicone tubing and slit it open on one side. I then slipped it over the lines so that there is no metal to metal contact between the steel brake lines and the rearmost bracket, it's a simple fix.

I didn't notice that until you did. I went out and took a quick look at my Lakewoods. I can stick my fist between the rear bracket and axle Got to go to work know... Will investigate further in the a.m.

ditto,I did something similar, I slid a piece of rubber fuel line over the brake lines where they made contact and slightly bent my brake lines out of the way so they are not resting on the tracktion bars. ..... pictures are not very good, to much light and not much detail , I can take some better pics

If you can stick your fist between the bracket and the axle they are a little too far aft.

so im thinking lakewoods are what im gonna go with, well its between that and the JLP's...

i guess my main concern is for street driving, dont wnat the noise and clunking, but it sounds like both of those are ok...time to go flip a coin...

I was faced with this same question myself. But I decided to go with traction bars from Mark at LFP. They are very very similar to the ones JLP sells, and are a bit cheaper. I also had them painted red to match the truck and should have them in a week or 2, hopefully. If you can wait till about Febuary 9th, I will have pics to show them before and after the install. They are on sale right now if you wanna give him a call. Tell him Josh in NY sent you. His number is 1-866-310-0750.

Josh

Lightbulb Traction Bars

When I first got my Lightning in Aug 01, I ordered a set of Traction Bars from Johnny Lightning, they look exactly like the ones that show the exhaust clamp hitting the bars. All I did was take a Dremmel and cut the tab off the exhaust that positioned the clamp, then I just rotated the clamp enough for the nut to clear the traction bars. I drive it every day all year even in the snow and tow a car trailer on it, it now has about 26K on it and no sign off any damage to the bar from the clamp. The biggest problem I had was trying to get the bars to slide into both the front and rear mounting brackets without any torsional binding. I had to shim the front bracket to achieve this. The truck was lowered with 2 inch shackles prior to installing the bars. If the truck was lowered prior to installing the bars that could cause binding. Notice I said could.

Lakewoods here. Got them to help prevent axle wrap and well worth the $100. I don't see any of these bars actually improving street traction of F1's. Their more important function is to help keep the DS in one piece!

I have the Metco upper links with a 2" drop. The JLP, JDM and other traction bars of this type arn't they only modified redesigned rancho bars?

Piggyback my question

on this thread. I have a 2kL with only 15k miles, stock height. Want to get something fairly inexpensive, but effective to eliminate the wheelhop, fishtailing I've experienced even at low speeds? Looking for no interference fit, brand, stock number, source and price would be great, too? Thanks for any help!

do any of the bars have problem with the bassani catback?

Bassani and JL bars..........perfect together

As what was said, if your running a mildly mod truck and street tires, just spend the $100 on cheap bars.
But if you want to get in the 11's, you need the long bars.
JDM, JL, LFP and such will be the way to go, its all about transfering weight

Would i be able to use this design for my truck which has roush leaf springs? I was going to build these myself, and use those dimensions and it dawned on me that i have a different leaf than factory. i saw on the truck traks website that he sells a hotchis adaptor kit whatever that is. What do you guys think id be able to do? and does anybody have a roush drop and use this type of traction bar, or am i gonna be forced to buy some full length bars?
thanks
Derek
