Question sheet metal intake?

Who makes these for the Lightning other than race related or silver state motorsports? What is the advantage of the silver state motorsports intake that appears to utilize the upper plenum. What is the difference between the race related intakes pictured? Is one design better than the other? On a forced induction engine the shorter the intake tract the better right?

Just about any racecar fabrication shop could build the type of intake you have pictured. All you would need is the lower intake they could use to pattern an intake base on. The intakes like this are just open plenums so it would not be too hard to fab up. As for the difference between the 2 race related intakes looks like just a natural progression. The first one appears to be made out of flat stock. The second one appears to have been formed with radius bends for smoother airflow. As for the Silver State using the factory intake track I don't know why it is done like that. Seems to me if you were going to be running very high boost it would eventually be a bottleneck.

That wouldnt be to hard to fab up if you had the templates for the lower intake. All you need is a good aluminum welder and an experienced welder to do it.

No one has asked this question before, from my research. If they did I'll have the post deleted.

Yeah, but that one is a turbo...that box on top of the engine is to keep the pressure from the turbo pressurized, and forces it into the intercooler. It takes the place of our supercharger...unless yall see something i dont. But that is 1 badass turbo setup. You have no use for that box...

the welds in that race related pic look like a 3rd grader did them. You should check out Hogan's racing manifolds, they will do a custom just about anything you can think of and there stuff is like ARTWORK.

Yes, but if you are thinking about installing a turbo or centrifugal supercharger you might need one.

There are a lot of places that make really nice intakes, but I'm not looking at spending a million dollars. Just something fairly cheap that works.

It doesn't get any cheaper or easier than pulling out the rotor packs. Cut the bottom of the blower out some if you want to increase flow some. Just a thought.

I had thought about removing the entire front and bolting on a cover plate where a TB could bolt on. Then I'd have to cut the bottom of the case out and block off the top entry. But then I wouldn't want to ruin a good blower.
Someone have a bad blower case they want to sell cheap?
