Question Plugs, Octane, Ping, and Detonation

Hi Guy's,

I've been reading a lot about pinging and detonation, What does this all mean? I have a 2001 in Hawaii, What kind of plugs and octane should I be running?

I have straight through exhaust one on each side ( thin wall glass packs, tips exit on each side ), Volant cold air, Jet Chip.

I am getting rid of the Jet Chip for a Swanson or JDM. Will be going with 4 lb lower pulley. Thats it, thats all I am going to do.

What do you think will wirk for Hawaii weather?

Thanks

slvrprple, did you buy the Lightning that was on sale at Cutter Ford with the Purples stripes coming down one side of the truck?

If so, I was impressed by the sound and the driver's side exhaust when I saw it at the dealership, how much did you pay?

BTW, welcome aboard and see you some time at the tracks......you of course know that in Hawaii silver is the fastest color, well until dirtchicken finishes his black one that is

WELCOME slvrprple

Talk to Dirt Chicken
He knows the area, and unfortunatly the bad
that can happen too

YOU MUST RUN THE HIGHEST OCTANE YOU CAN BUY
It's all about Octane vs your Tune, and what you have available.
4lb pulley, cold plugs, cool air, and a safe rich tune will give you
a nice running detonation free Beast as long as you keep the timing reasonable and the tune a little rich.

Get the JDM flip chip and you wont be dissapointed. With a chip and 4lb lower it is a totally different truck. I think in the hot climate of hawaii you shouldnt have to worry to much about detonation since theres no cold weather. Talk to the guys at JDM and they will fix you up for your setup.

BTW if you dont already have the JET chip out take it out now. Itis doing more damage than good and it wil create detonation.

Welcome to the L brotherhood + Leeann. You will learn allot on these forums. We definitely need to see pics of your exhaust. If you don't know how to show them, Rob_02Lightning can hook you up. Like how I volunteered you bro? Good luck with the L and get those pics of the exhaust on. I would also like to know where in HI you are. I lived in Ewa Beach for 2 years.
Kind of wish I was back there. For the climate and beaches, not the traffic.
