Buying a new Lightning

I'm a noob but plan to post on here more often since I am getting a new '04 Dark Shadow Grey Lightning on Monday. I have been wanting this truck forever and the day has finally come. I look forward to learning more about the truck and appreciate any advice all of you have to offer.

Check over the vehicle before taking delivery on it.

Look to see if the front bumper cover has any damage underneith (usually the lowest section under fog lights) from when the remove the truck from the hauler.

Also any other "oops" and "damage" like scratches, dings etc etc that sometimes happen while the are on the lot/in showroom.

If possible, avoid the front lic. plate bracket unless it's a law in your state. (it is here in TX, I still don't have it) The front bumper looks so much nicer with out it

You should have a set of Lugnut locks & key in the glove box, along with a key for the spare tire too in there.

Get the best deal you can. It's a game. Haggle and walk out, 95% of the time they will call you back in within minutes. I picked up my '04 for $29,363.83 (has opt. bed cover).

Good Luck and enjoy!!!

29,363 is a pretty damn good price. How much above invoice is that? It can't be much. What do you think a decent price to shoot for is?

My 03 had NO problems in 14k miles in 3 months. It is so trouble free its scary. So..... I got a beater (20 sec club) so that it stays so nice longer

Congrats Jon on the new ride!! You're going to love it!

One thing you might check too, is the alignment of all the panels.

I know when I got mine the bed was turned 1/2" toward the passenger side. And the front bumper sagged alittle to the passenger side.

If you bought at the price your claiming, you bought below invoice. Invoice on an L with the soft tonneau is $29,997. That dealer isn't even making back the Franchise Fee he has to pay Ford if he's selling like that. You got a hell of a deal. I know, I sell them.

x-plan 1st, haggle 2nd then tossed in the $500 rebate from fordpartner.com website afterwards $33,550 was MSRP.

$31699.07 '04 L - Sales Tax of $1,835.24 = $29,863.83
Then the $500 rebate = $29,363.83
