Dyno Ethics

Just wonder what you guys think. Dyno owners like JDM please respond.

If you dyno at a shop. Should that shop keep your file to themselves or printout copies to anyone that asks. Make overlays etc?
In other words do you think it's okay for the shop to give your dyno sheets out without your consent?

Kind of an interesting question. Is there a "problem" in your area with people wanting other people's dynos? I've never had anyone ask, and the only time I've showed people someone else's dyno sheets, was to show typical numbers for certian mods and such. I've never told someone "this is John Smith's truck", I'd say something like "this is a truck we dynoed with so and so mods". Just my .02.

Thanks for resonding Sal. To answer your question. I have dynoed a few times at a local shop. I have been informed that the shop is giving out my dyno information in printout form and overlaying it on to other peoples graphs.
Just seemed strange that a shop would do this. Is this something you would do? Just wonderd if this was normal. I would have thought the shop would have kept the info private.

Hilander-

I'm curious: When you say he is giving out your dyno info, do you mean your name, VIN, etc, or just your HP graph?

I could totally see using just the graph, and maybe some notes along with it, such as "2002 lightning, 4lb, CAI, etc"...

but to show off your name, phone, VIN, etc; that would not be a good thing to me.

No he is not giving out my phone number. The info was given to the owner of another truck I know. We have a friendly battle at the strip. I do not mind him having the info. I just would have thought the owner of the dyno would not give out information so easily. Makes me wonder if he gives out any info to anyone that asks.

well i don't know about dynos specifically, but I think it's fairly common for businesses to show their greater accomplishments esp in small businesses. For example, a few years ago my parents hired a guy to retile the entier bathroom, and he showed pictures of his previous work so we could get an idea of what he did. I'm not sure if he asked for consent or not, but that seems fairly normal. Let's face it 400 hp or so (i don't know how much your making) is pretty impressive and very uncommon in all but the highest end vehicles.
