Install of Boost guage on column

Well, I ordered the 105-4103 Auto Meter Lunar Gauge / Boost, 30-psi Boost/30-In.Hg.(Vacuum) and 105-15004 Auto Meter Steering Column Mount Gauge Pod from JEG's last night..

I plan on hooking up the boost line to the guage off of the stock boost line under the steering column using 3/16 x 3/16 x 3/16 "T" fitting and Vacu-tite part# 47405 1/8"x5/32" soft vaccum connector/elbow. I've heard that if you immerse the tubing that comes with the guage in fairly hot water (not to hot!) it will uncurl easily and less chance of a kink. Yes, will make sure no water gets in the line. If any fitting is tight to get on the hot water (not boiling) trick works on tight fittings also.

For electric wiring I plan on attaching the "-" neg to a grounding point somewhere under the dash. For the "+" / power, for the guage I will hook that to the small light blue wire with red/pinkish stripe on the headlight switch panel. Wired this way the gauge light will function with the dimmer.

By the way, the light switch panel just pops out. While you are in there why not do the Fog light mod. Go here for info on how to do this mod which is easy to do go. --> http://www.svtlightnings.com/svt/how...s/foglamps.htm

Well, JEG's is fast to ship as my Auto Meter Lunar Boost guage and Autometer steering column pod arrived today, two days after ordering.
Anyway, the guage is pretty much completely installed already. Elec. is hooked up and guage light works and dims with dash. Vacumn line is hooked to guage and the other end of the line is waiting under the dash to be hooked up with a tee at the site where the stock boost guage hooks up. Just waiting on AutoZone to get me the Vacu-tite 47405 connector so I can hook up the Auto Meter to the vacumn line. Autozone says a day or two more and they will have it. Oh, the pod with guage looks great. That Auto Meter pod is such a perfect match to my L's black textured vinyl that it looks factory!

Well, I called Auto Zone today about the Vacu-tite part# 47405 1/8"x5/32" soft vaccum connector/elbow and after they told me a couple of days to get it they are now saying a few days or longer.. 8-( I then went to Advance Auto down the road and there was 5 of them hanging on a hook.. 8-) SO, install of the 105-4103 Auto Meter Lunar Gauge / Boost, 30-psi Boost/30-In.Hg.(Vacuum) and 105-15004 Auto Meter Steering Column Mount Gauge Pod is complete. The install was extremely easy, thanks to lots of info gleened from this website regarding the install. Probably the hardest part if you can't really call it hard at all is knowing where to go to hook up the positive wire so the guage lighting is powered and dims with the dash lights... then knowing the vacumn line fittings you need and not kinking the vacumn line tube (when it is 4 degrees as in frigggggin COLD in the garage) when fishing it down under the dash. Again, easy install and the end result looks great! (that damm column pad looks like factory)

I went to Advanced Auto parts tonight and priced gauges for poops and giggles. They were $2 cheaper than Summit and no shipping!

Yea, but if you are gonna order a column guage pod and have to pay shipping anyway, you might as well get the guages and pod from one vendor like JEG'S. Remember you pay tax locally. Tax on say $130.00 is $11.00+- depending where you are located.
Less expensive to get from JEG'S and JEG'S has the guage pod. When I ordered mine a few days ago they had 30 guage pods in stock. JEG'S has free shipping, no sales tax but does charge I think $8.50 handling fee.

I saw a friend who had this and I completely drooled. I don't have a lightning. I have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP and was looking for another route when mounting my Boost guage other than the A-Pillar and middle console front under the radio. I wonder if doing some cutting and using the double sided tape if it would work. Does anyone have a GTP also and tell me if it'll work or not. I got a dremel so I can do wonders.

I was looking at the image of it, if anyone can measure from these points just to give me an idea.

Did you see the gauge trim replacement that holsd two meters? It was is part #105-1503 I belive they said its for a supercrew but I was wondering if the gauge area is the same. I would consider something like that then you could put a boost and a A/F or volt gauge in the other? I may have to call tomorrow.
