slicks or traction bars?

What do you guys run.....slicks or traction bars..or both? Also, regarding slicks, what size tire and rim will fit the L?

Thanks,

Michael

Do not run slicks without traction bars!!!!

If you do then you will get axle wrap and break your Drive shaft and U-joints.

It does not matter weather you go with a traction bar (Slapper type) or the rancho style traction devices. BOth will stop axle wrap.

EDIT: I am running Hoosier QTP 28x11.5 on a 16" American Racing "Baja" rim. I think most people go with the Hoosier QTP but some opt to go with a 15 " slick but if oyu do this you have to grind down the brake caliper.

Hope this helps.

,Jason

My track is very sticky and I run an average of 12.8 without slicks and 12.6 with the slicks. I get about 1.83 second 60 foot times with no slicks an about 1.74 seconds with slicks.

John's traction bars are the rancho style bars and work great. I have slapper bars but only because they where easier for me to get my hands on in time for when I needed them. There are a couple of minor differences in terms of how they both work. The rancho style ones have to be pre-loaded. Some say this affects ride quality other say its not noticable.

FYI my mods are....

JLP 6# Pulley
Dibalo Chip tuned by JLP
Denso IT 22 plus
Airaid intake (With custom cold air set up)
Traction bars
Slicks

Its good that you do your reaserch when modding a lightning. Many people dive right in and make many mistakes. These trucks need to be modded right in order to see gains and reduce risk of going BOOM.

I for one learnt about the traction bars the hard way A drive shaft blowing is a scary thing LOL

someone was telling me to at least get the cams done. Don't really know what that will give me though. Any thoughts?

yes do cams. They sound awesome and the gains are proven and very effective. Ride quality may suffer a bit however, ask your tuner. Probably be fine with a Stage II of your choice.

I would talk to Johnny about the specifics of your set up. Cams help but can also affect driveability on a daily driver depending on how aggresive they are. Its really all depends on what you want to get out of your L. I am sure some Lightning tuners sell cams that would be good for a daily driver.

If my motor blew I think I would get the built motor + KB blower and thats about it LOL.

But like I said give JLP a call tell him what you want the end result to be and work from there given your budget.

Good luck with the new set up. It should be lots of fun!

I have JL traction bars and a set of unrun 16x10 Hoosier slicks mounted on a set of Eagle alloy convo pro style rims. The bars have been on about a year with zero problems JDM's bars are similar but I believe a bit longer. good luck, Todd

by the time you get the motor back into your truck
the final bill has to be close or over 10G's. you'd be nuts to be out in the street with that much hp and trq with no traction bars and proper tires.

if your lowered go with the adjustable metco bars if your not go with the rancho style bars form jdm or jlp.

and then get your self a set of ET streets.

I'm running at 500rwh and i can light my F1's at 60km no problem.
this spring its time for tires and a trip to mission.
