Is Your L a Vehicle you've kept longer than past Vehicles ???
Usually it's 1/2 a year to a year I keep a Car,
maybe a few out of 50 or so I've kept 2yrs.
I even got sick of the Cobra after 2 yrs and bailed out.
But with the L, it's been differant, I'm still as excited today to drive it, as the day I took it home. (Almost 2yrs now)
I'll ocasionally catch myself day dreaming about the next Mod, and this coming from a Father, home owner, and 40 something
yr old man. I mean I could have done soooooooooo much to my house yet I continue to put $ into the L.
I need floors and ceilings in like 3 rooms yet I just bought diff Bars and FTVB.
Am I Crazy ?
Ok bad choice of Words, we all know I'm crazy
I can see I'm clearly not alone. I see many sell one to get
another, schitt some are even on their 3rd lightning,
prob a few on the 4th including their Gen 1's.
Even know a Hi Performance Vehicle HAS ALWAYS been
part of my daily routine over the last few decades, this
is still differant. And meanwhile I aint got a pot to **** in,
I'm in hock up to my ears, owe over 10k in CC's, bla bla bla..
HOW BOUT YOU ???
Has the Lighting been in your driveway longer than
previous Vehicles ???

I usually stay in for the long haul.
Bought a Toyota Corolla in 71. Drove it for 17 years. Brought my daughter home from the hospital in and taught her how to drive it. Prolly still have it if she hadn't recked it. Ha!
I've had my 91 Dodge Diesel since 96 to haul my RV trailer.
When I bought my I L I thought about it long and hard. I had a 78 Merc RS that had built 351 and was slammed. I got so tired of dragging the bottom on these crummy roads we have everywhere.
The L fits all my needs.
Quick
handles like a sports car
enough ground clearance to handle the roads
tasteful Bling
comfortable
insurance is cheaper than a comparable car
Hauls and tows my toys ( offroad Sandrail) to the dunes
gets good milage for the amount of performance
Tradeoffs in everything but there is not another single vehicle that can do all these things IMHO I would buy it again in a heartbeat.

This is the longest I have had a vehical 1 year 5 months I have spent around $10,000.00 on it so far in mods apperance items and so forth, Fortunatly for me my soon to be wife makes quite a chunk of change and between the two of us we are pushing that $165,000.00 mark per year so I can play a little! I have had to learn though to control my addiction, because there are better things in life than modding the L, I dont know what it is yet but I am sure there is
I have had my 2000 a little over 3 years now, and I love it. I do regret it sometimes(like when I am putting 25 gallons of premium in) but I have had it longer than any other vehicle I have owned. I used to have a 94 Cobra for about 2 years, traded for 98 Cobra, and then ditched that in 8 months to get the Lightning. Been pretty happy overall these last 77k miles.
I went through 3 cars in less than a year because after a couple months in each I ended up finding something that I hated about them. Didn't matter if it was my blazer, my mustang, or my explorer...there was always something missing. I couldn't really explain what they were missing but there was just a feeling deep inside of me that made me unhappy driving those cars. Since before I could legally drive a vehicle I've loved the ford lightnings. I think I even compared all of my previous vehicles to a lightning saying things like "well this may be nice but those lightnings are amazing," or "wow those seats are comfy, but the lightning comes with a leather and suede combo in a two tone pattern." I even knew all the specs on the lightning, I would have rather read my SVT brochure that I got from the dealer than do any math work. My mom finally made my dreams come true when she agreed to let me get the lightning as long as I payed for it. Well it took a crap load of saving and sacrifice (driving that crappy mustang
) but I finally saved up for my L, and for some reason I still have the same ***** eating grinn on my face when I start it up that I had when I first took it for a test drive

Other than my '69 Mercury and '93 Firehawk, the L has the record so far. It's catching up on the Firehawk quickly though. I usually average 1.5 - 2 yrs per vehicle. The L has made it 2.5 years and still holds my interest. I think we'll be together for a while. She only has 20,000 miles on her so far. Not too bad for a daily driver.
Love my L
Hey Rob, they're gonna have to bury me in my L. For one thing, I've got a ton of mula into it, and I just love the acceleration factor
that it delivers, so I guess my answer is yes I will keep it longer than a "regular" vehicle, John H.

Rob, I knew I liked you when you provide all the help with me finding out how to put pictures into my posts and sig. After reading this thread I know why. I'm in my 40's, have owned better than 50 cars, 15 motorcycles, 5 jet ski's, and 2 boats. Although I have had a couple of vehicles that I kept for 3 years, that's my longest. My '87 Buick T-type being one. I had to give up my '98 Cobra to buy my house. Couldn't afford the payment with the Expedition, Cobra, and house. Needed the Expi. for the family. My wife gave me the go ahead on my L (didn't want another Cobra, too small inside) and I love this truck. My neighbors all laugh and wonder how quickly I'll sell the L because I always sell what I buy. But, like you, I'm just having too much damn fun in this thing. I can't think of one thing I'd rather be driving. I did contemplate trading my '03 for an '04 ( since I sell them and everything) just so I would have on of the last of this generation L's. Can't do it though. I just did my FTVB, and am going to take advantage of JLP's new years special with the 4# pulley, plugs, and Pedator. Going to get the lowering shackle while I'm at it. May have to take out a second mortgage to keep up, but I'll do it with a big smile.
This is the longest vehicle I have owned at 3 yrs and counting.
Nice Jetta BTW. Looks great. Thinking of getting one some day for a family vehicle when I have kids. See how long it lasts B4 I mod it LOL.

I still have my first car that I got when I was 15, It is in a hundred pieces though, someday I will finish rebuilding it. I tend to keep cars for a long timeexcept for the 98 SVT Contour I bought trying to be practical I kept it a year and lost my butt on it trading for the L. BTW I am almost 36 so I have had my First car, 65 Falcon for 21 years! Built 3 differant times.
