Confused,grill question
Confused,grill question
I am trying to find a Speed Scene grill and from what I have heard they only work with the honeycomb style stock grilles, is this true? I have an 01 and really want to get that ugly upper grill gone or covered up. How are people mounting the Speed Scene one??
Funny you ask this question. My girl got me the street scene grilles for xmas and i have an 02. I tried to put the main grille on and after about 3 hours i could not get it to fit right, but it did look good in there. So i called the company that she ordered the grilles from and they say it should only take a half hour to install. I laughed at the guy and told him that it did not fit and that something was wrong. He proceeded to say it was me. Then he eventually got it through his head and now i'm sending it back to get it replaced with another one. Just figured i'd let you know. I post later when i get it back and see how the other one fits.
There have been many posts on the fit of these grills. I have one and can tell you that they do not fit with the fixings they send you.
Some people remove the inner grill of the stock unit. I did that, then fitted the grill on with the press in type fitting used for interior trim. Worked out real nice.

Hilander, whats my best plan of attack?? Can you tell me what I need to cut out to make it fit?? I will be getting one tomorrow and really want it on....Thanks to everyone for help!!!
400HPHD,
I just noticed you have a 2001. Mine is a 2000. Having said that I would think they would be very close.
I did the top grill install by first removing the upper grill complete in the shell.
I then had the choice of fitting the new grill over the old one. I did not like that as you could see the stock grill through the new one.
So I took a hacksaw and a dermal. I cut the inside of the grill out leaving the outer shell of the grill.
Next step was to line up the new grill and insert it into the shell at the depth I liked best. I went with the flush look.
I held the new grill in place with these push in type interior trim studs you can pick up at AutoZone etc. I simply marked the old shell where the grill fitted in and drilled small holes evenly spaced into the old shell. Then I used the trim studs to push through the folded parts of the grill into the old shell. This has been on for 2 years now.
As for the lower grill, I removed the whole stock grill and inserted the new one. I held mine in place with Zip ties through the folded part of the grill into the hoops in the front bumper.
Hope I made my self clear enough for you to get the jist of it. The completed install looks great, you can’t see any fixings.
