AIRAID is in but......

I installed my AIRAID and absolutely love the additonal whine from the blower but aside from that, I noticed two things. First thing was that it really didn't feel any faster. If anything, it felt a little more sluggish down low. Secondly though, the boost gauge goes up noticeably higher. When stock, it would hover just below 10psi but now it is over 10 and more toward what would be 11 psi. This is what is making me keep the AIRAID on because even though it felt a little sluggish down low, there is no way I lost power if it picked up 1 full psi right? Anyone else notice this?

I tested the open airkit vs stock box w/K&N a few years ago on my old truck...here is my old thread (former username):

I was consistently 0.15-0.2 tenths faster on the G-tech and at the track with the stock box. My gauge also showed more boost with the open filter, but the #'s tell the story. It's not the quantity of air...it's the quality and flow of the air across the MAF that makes a bigger difference IMHO. I dynoed at the #'s in my sig w/ 4#, chip and drop in K&N filter...

My experience is the same as "factaldragon". I do have an Airaid drop in filter I just got that I think is better than the K&N. It fits like the stock filter without the gasket.

I took my '99 to the strip when it was 100% stock, then removed the whole airbox in place of an open K&N conical filter. Keep in mind, this filter is in the engine compartment, 'supposedly' sucking up all that hot engine air. Anyway, my truck instantly picked up power and I never looked back ('cept for it's two trips to the dealer in the last 4 years ). Went from 13.7x/99.xxmph bone stock, to 13.3x/102+mph in similar weather conditions, same track, no other mods, etc.

Time in sig is with filter, 3# pulley(NO chip), line mod valve. It's hard to believe the filter gave me more improvement than the 3#'er, but that's how it stands for now.
