4# pulley a BITCH

Happy New Year everyone. It took me 5 1/2 hours and I just got the 6 front plugs done. What a BITCH!!! #3 on the drivers side is a *BITCH*. I have a guy that will change the back 2 ( Back 1 on each side) for $40. You bet your *** Im taking him up on it. Its the same guy that did my heads when I spit a plug. He should know what he is doing.

So we have the 6 front plugs gapped @ .038 (amazingly enough all plugs have been gapped at .038 from NGK( Tr6's)

ROB- where u at. All the write ups I have seen say CLOCKWISE
except yours. ( a little to much to the point) That makes me wonder if I am turning this ****ING bolt the right way. It has to be. Everyone says that except you (I know that funky **** makes you forget :o))I had the torgue (sp.) convertor locked down and everything removed except the lower pulley. The tool that RPM supplies me with is a piece. That thing is at its end. You would think that it would be forged steel or something. That is the weakest piece of **** I have ever seen in my whole life. I have made 3 trips to HiLo, 2 trips to Sears Hardware & 1 trip to Autozone ( and I almost forgot 1 trip to Walmart) and I am still lacking 2 back plugs.(But, Im done with that!! I give up!! $40 is worth it to me for the last 2)( I shoule have taken Steve (HALO?) up on his offer) Yes I am kicking myself in the ***!! LaPorte or not I should have done it!!!!!)

:d

I am ****ed up and Rambling on New Years Eve!!!!

Anyways I need help guys. The Hex (?) it looks like on the lower pulley of a '99. What in the hell do you guys take it off with. I know it can't be what I have. I cant get a 1/2" drive socket in it. A 3/8" is to small. I have tried the biggest Toque (sp.) I can find along with the biggest Allen I can find. It is something right on. Maybe Metric??? Either way I have tried everything I can thing of - up to the point of breaking the piece of ****** tool off in my pulley. 100+ lb. fts. ( thats what the "how to'so" sayand that BITCH still wont break lose.

WHAT THE HELL?!?!?!?!!!?

P.S. Am I the only guy up at this hour wondering whats going on with his trcuk??? Probably so!!!

What bolt? Cause everything I have read to take off the lower pulley is COUNTER CLOCKWISE.

My Metco directions for the lower cage pulley removal is to turn the bolt clockwise(loosen). But that is for my 03'L.

well, I don't know if you were drunk or high when you typed that, but it was new years eve so I suppose it's ok.

in any event, if you are trying to take the the center of the lower pulley loose then you need a 14mm hex bit and a 1/2" breaker bar.

turn it CLOCKWISE to loosen.

good luck.

later,
chris

5 1/2 hours for 6 plugs ?

What are you using for tools ? A butterknife and a monkeywrench ?

That is very funny!!!!!!!!!! My guess is that he doesn't have the correct tools though. I took an hour and 45 minutes the first time I did the plugs on mine, and did them in under an hour the second time.

The OE pulley to harmonic damper thread is left hand. Facing the engine, turn that sucker clockwise, if you can.

Man I'm glad I slathered mine up with Neverseez when I built my engine. Came right off when needed.

a lift and a good, long and strong piece of pipe is a must.sounds like a shot gun when it breaks loose.

When I took mine off a couple of years ago(2001 model), for a while ,I didn't think I'd ever break that 14mm bolt loose. Hard to get much leverage laying underneath raised om jackstands. I put the longest piece of pipe I could fit underneath there - about 2 foot on my breaker bar - and it finally broke loose. The job is easy on a lift.

The stock pulley is a left handed thread ... The tool is
first rate if it's the same as the PSP kit ... I have used mine on
6 different occasions and always got it off eventually.

Persevere my friend ...
