Why am I so retarded?

My timing, that is. We put the Predator on my truck today, just for fun and datalogging, and at WOT, my timing advance is 11 or 12 degrees. My o2 sensor voltage was a consistent .85 volts. This was with no chip; my only mods are my 3# pulley, K&N drop in, and boost bypass. My friend's truck (with an E-fan, no pulley) is running more like 17 degres of advance at WOT, with nearly the same o2 sensor voltage. Why is mine so low?
We also scanned my computer for codes and got one. P1000 (OBD-II Monitor Testing Incomplete). Is this normal, or something I should be worried about? Thanks guys!

Matt

safety wise wouldn't you want a lower timing?

Of course, but within reason. I want the most timing I can safely squeeze out of my engine. I am just trying to figure out why it is so low from the factory with no mods to the computer.

What year is your truck compared to your friends. Different model years came thru with different timing but 11 degrees sounds about right for a stock program. If you didn't down load a program from the predator then I think that sounds right.

As far as the 02 volts, .85 is very rich but the stock 02 sensor can only read in a narrow range so I'm not sure how accurate that is either. Dale

We might be onto something here guys, my truck is an 02, my buddies is an 03...his timing is more like 16-17, while mine is around 11-12. I wonder if it's just the way they programmed them from the factory...

I can tell you this from past experience WITH MY 02 TRUCK

When it was brand new, I raced it a complete Summer,
weekend after weekend after weekend and couldn't run faster
than a 13.3 With Filter Chip N 6lbs
I was convinced I had the worlds slowest Lightning,
when I complained to my tuner, he reminded me my timing
was only 1 degree advanced (so I could break the truck in) hehehehe (His exact words were, I was set at 12, stock is 11)

I had him move it to 15 degrees, and I tuned down to 4lbs of pulley, (the extra heat generated from the 6lbs was hurting me)
Next time out, I ran a 12.8 on F-1's, pump gas, and full weight.
After much testing I found MY L needs a min of 16 degrees at all times, EVEN WITH JUICE.
SO now I drive 24/7 on 18 degrees for the street,
and I race with Nitrous and 16 degrees.

I'd say 15 -16 degrees would be an excellent starting point for you, GOOD LUCK

Does anyone know the stock timing for a 03?

Using the predator, my timing was at 17 degrees with the performance tune. I went back to the stock tune, and I still am at 17 degrees.

BTW: I'm the one with the 03 that Matt is talking about, and Matt I think the Predator says that the P1000 code is normal when you use a performance tune.

P1000 means that you have either reset the PCM or unhooked the battery..

The code is "ODBII test cycle not complete " or something like that

It is NORMAL and will go away in a few hundred miles - once the odbII tests are completed ( automatically )
