Big Discounts on SVT's
Here in Orlando, SVT dealers are offering big discounts -- at least on new '03 Focus' and Cobras. For example:
SVT Focus 3-door w/moonroof & audiophile pkg - MSRP of $21,350 on sale for $16,977 (discount of $4,373)
SVT Mustang Cobra Convertible - MSRP of $39,405 on sale for $34,995 (discount of $4,410)
Didn't see any Lightnings advertised.
Great time to buy!

The dealers selling at those prices are loosing money. And those prices are below invoice. People talk all the time about hold back and how the dealer makes more, or pays less, because of the holdback. That's true, and not true. When the dealer buys the car, he is usually financing it (flooring) The majority of the dealers in my area floor with Ford. When they get the car, it is at INVOICE. That is the amount floored. When I trade a unit with another dealer, and we do a flooring transfer, both cars transfer at INVOICE. Holdback is a fund provided to the dealer by Ford to help offset the cost of FLOORING. You'll get guys that will want you to discount the flooring amount from their purchase if they order a car because the dealer won't be paying any flooring on their car. Most dealers won't do this. They still payed INVOICE to get the car from Ford. They haven't gotten the flooring money seperately. Last year our dealership ended up about $3,000 in the hole for flooring, and that was supposedly a good year. It is considered outstanding if you actually make money on flooring by years end. Some dealers will sell at a loss to prevent an even bigger loss. We have two '03 Cobras. One has been there since April and the other June. Free flooring expires 90 days after the vehicle ships from Ford. So we're paying interest on the INVOICE amount every month. Apparently the dealers mentioned in this thread would rather take the hit up front and be done. But they are loosing money on those cars. Hope this clears things up a little.
I agree with Mart Man.
According to edmunds.com, an '03 Cobra convertible with no options lists at $38,460 (including the $625 destination charge) and costs the dealer $35,444 at invoice, including the destination charge. Also, until early January there is a $1,500 customer rebate so, if you could get one at invoice and then apply the rebate you would pay $33,944 (plus tax, tag, etc.).
