Post Rookie needs some advise

Hows it going fellas. Well I was pointed here from a buddy with a lightning and seems I'm at the right place. Anyway I've been a mustang gear head up until a few weeks ago when I put the stang for sale and got my 01 lightning. Anyone from Jersey want a 11sec 88 ?

Anyway I was hoping I could get some good advise on taking care of my lightning. What type of plugs do these 5.4s like/not like, oil, filters, etc etc.

The stock audio needs some work. What door/rear speakers and subs have you had expierence with?

I bought the truck with 44,000 miles in good shape. Still trying to find out all that has been done to it. I read 13lbs of boost, but I was only told about a chip being instalelled. Does that chip really bring the 8lbs up to 13!? First time with a blower guys.... still learning.

Any advise would be greatly appriciated.

The chip won't bring boost up. Pulleys do that by spinning the blower faster. If your reading the stock guage, they are very in accurate. I think the only go to 10 anyway so your probably not. You can measure the pulleys and I think there are some threads that tell you what size makes what boost.

The plugs they like are different heat range of Denso Iridium. I run 14PSI and use IT22's some guys run NGK, but I've heard they foul quicker.

Be careful with the chips, if they are not tuned properly they can ventilate your block.

Theres an aftermarket guage installed. So I guess the pulley is definetly in then.

Thanks

With 13 lbs of boost showing on an aftermarket gauge, your L probably has either a 4 or 5 lb. lower s/c pulley. If that's correct, you need either NGK TR6's or NGK BR7EF's(colder) gapped at 0.038-0.040" I use a 'dab' of Lubro-Moly's antisieze on the threads, run them down finger-tight, then 1/16th of a turn more, and dielectric grease on the plug exterior.

My 01 L got Royal Purple #11(5w20) Synthetic Racing oil at the 4,000 mile mark and has been 'fed' RP ever since. I used the K&N Gold oil filter--good filtration and a 1" 'nut' on the bottom of the can for easy removal.

Now at 61,000 trouble-free miles .

Well if your still in Jersey. Then take a trip to JDMs in Freehold. www.teamJDM.com and have them look the L over and they will tell you everything you have that is not factory.
Give them a call 1732-780-0770
It is very important you have the proper tune for your L if you have a chip, especially since it is winter.

Hope this helps.

Hey Jon
WELCOME AND CONGRATS ON THE LIGHTNING

You Def found yourself to the right place,
This is the best Forum to be part of.

You'll find the most new post here, the best people here,
most of the fastest Lightning's in the Country here,
and some of the best Lightning Tuners+Suppliers are
part of it too.
They're here to answer questions, give advise, and to
make us go faster IN THE SAFEST MANNER POSSIBLE.

You want to read listen and learn, ESPECIALLY IF YOURS
IS MODDED ALREADY. I was a motor head over 25yrs
before buying a Lightning and trust me when I tell you,
you basically have to forget all you know about cars,
and start over (at least the thinking process)

I assume since yours has so many miles on it, it's tuned
correctly and should be fine to you figure it out,
BUT YOU NEED TO KNOW EXACTLY WHATS IN IT ASAP

No ones trying to scare you, but simple things like not enough
octane, too hot a plug, too much timing, too lean a Chip
Program, can result in a blown Motor EXTREMELY EASY w/ a
Supercharged Modular Motor. Of course the good part is,
with min mods you will be running 12's and even 11's like your stang, and can do it without basically giving up any comfort
and reliablity "IF IT'S DONE RIGHT"

CONGRATS AND WELCOME ABOARD
NOW HOW BOUT SOME PICTURES OF THE BEAST ??

Btw, post back a pic and where and who you bought it from,
chances are very high we already know the truck and
maybe even your Mods ???

Welcome,

Rob 02 is dead on. These things are more fickle about venting the block than any other car I've heard of. Especially in the winter!

If you EVER think you hear it pinging? BACK OFF.

See my mods for what I recommend. & I can't say enough for the live dyno tune. It has been my #1 mod of choice.

Rich
