Which Autolite Plug is Best?
Which Autolite Plug is Best?
I plan on switching out my plugs when I change my manifold to a 01. For a truck with 4lbs of extra boost which plug should I be using, the AR93's or AR103's.
What's the difference in both, how much colder are they than the stock plugs?
Anyone know the torq specs for the manifold bolts?
Thanks and Merry Christmas!

Spark plugs????
I changed plugs after i installed my JLP 4lb lower pully and went with DENSO IT22 and could not be more satisified the idle is smooth and everything in between to WOT. just my opinon- I have a spare set if u are looking to buy some Denso.
I believe the 103's are what you are looking for.
FYI - Others have reported rough idle, slugishness, and no increase in performance from these plugs.

skennett is right, the plugs will run fine but will feel "flat" for lack of a better term.
Wich is strange cause when I had a turbo buick the Autolites had the exact opposite effect, it was the only plug to run for a long time. Dale

Colder.
The AR103 is the same heat range as the TR6 according to the cross reference charts and NAPA.
I tried to get some AR103's today with no luck. Carquest use to have them but show them discontined from stock. No luck at NAPA either.
The regular 103's are the plugs with the flat throttle response. I know because I tried them a couple of years ago. They have the wide and long ground electrode that shrouds the center electrode. I believe this is why the throttle response is so bad on the regular 103.
AR93's are the only ones I could find. I'm afraid they will be too cold and miss at low RPM like BR7's.

I say don't bother with the autolites either, at least on any performance vehicle. Go with either the Denso's or NGK's.
I'm running autolites on my GTI (15psi from the turbo) and lately I've been getting rough idle, and a slight degrade in response which I suspect to be the plugs. So I'm going to be changing out the autolites and see if that solves my problems.
But the NGK's in my truck, no problems at all with them.

Capt.,
Are you running the AR's or the regular plugs in the GTI?
