Question '03 ride hight questions

I would really like my L to sit level. When Ford increased the towing and bed weight capacity on the '03 L, they made the back end sit way too high. Can anyone tell me if there's a lowering kit available for the '03 that will leave the truck level. If so, who makes it and how much does it cost? I tried the Bell Tech lowering shackles for the back. I think it was supposed to be a 2" drop, but the back end still sat higher than the front. I also picked up a bad vibration in the truck from 15 to 30 MPH so I took it off and went back to stock. One of the guys from this Forum "speeder" (he was actually my first SVT customer '01 L) drove down to my house on his day off and did some mods to my L. Gotta love that, 2 1/2 hour drive just to help out another L owner Anyway, his truck is lowered and when sitting next to mine in my driveway looked totaly bitchen. So, I think I'm going to need to do the lowering thing too.

Thanks in advance for you assistance

I used 3" drop shackles which gave 2" of drop; sits level and no vibrations.

Thanks, your L looks awesome. I originally was planning on going with the Sonic Blue, but I couldn't get one when I was ready to purchase. What brand are the shackles, and where did you get them?

JLP 3 inch adjustables. Flipped the shims around to get rid of the vibration. Do a search under my name and you'll see the problems that are easy to avoid. Hey why not learn from my mistakes?

Re: '03 ride hight questions

I put on 2" shackles which lowered the rear 1.5". You'd think 2" shackles would lower 2" but that's not necessarily true.

I like a slight rake and now my front fender well clearance is 5.5" and the rear is 6. It was 5.5" in front and 7.5" in the rear before shackles.

Could you measure from the center of the cap in the middle of the wheel to the edge of the fender lip on front and rear?

I disliked the ride height of my 03' as well so I tried putting some 2" drop shackles on to see what they would do. Then I also purchased some 01' springs off a member here and swapped the 03' springs out for them. I did have a little vibration in the rear with the shackles, so when I replaced the springs I flipped the 03' shim around and feels vibration free.

Here's some pics of the differences

03 springs in back and 01 springs up front. Not much difference in height, but quite a bit of difference in stiffness and about a 1/16th difference in height on each leaf.

Before: 03 with 2" shackles After: 03 with 2" shackles and 01 springs

Some measurements (from center of wheel):

Stock:
Front - 19"
Back - 21.25"

Stock w/2" shackles:
Front - 19"
Back - 20"

01' Leafs w/2" shackles:
Front - 19"
Back - 19.25"

Either way you decide to go, 3" drop shackles or replace the springs, will make the look alot better. I decided to go the spring route because I got them for a pretty good deal and didn't like the idea of having the "extra" play of a 3" shackle. Good luck!
