do lightnings haul?????

I am obsessed with lightnings. I've had trucks my whole life - I have horses and pull a trailer. In the past I lived on a farm and towed quite frequently - I have a f 250. However, in the past few months my obsession with fast cars has resurfaced. I bought an eclipse and I am selling my truck. However, I still own one horse and a trailer and need to pull it occasionally. The trailer weighs 2400 lbs and the horse about 1100 lbs. I have seen lightnings hauling cars to the track but I am hearing mixed things about lightnings hauling. Maybe some of you lightning owners have hauled a little bit and could help me make a decision. I plan to leave it pretty stock, the project car is the eclipse. I want to buy one so bad but I really don't want to mess it up.

I have pulled a two horse trailer and two horses that totalled about ~5000 lbs. It absolutely can be done. I will say this though, depending on how often and how far you pull, the lightning with its rather expensive tires and bad gas mileage could be an expensive hauler. My '03 Lightning came from the factory with a full meal deal class III hitch and all electric accessories FYI.

Yes they haul. You may need a five-point harness for you horse though. Seriously, hitch wieght can be the only potential problem which can be easily addressed with a proper load distrubuting hitch and or air bags to help out with the rear squat.

Other than that you are set to go.

I hauled a 65 corvair corsa to new mexico and got average 13 mpg. I had a little help with the wind, but other than that, I was passing people uphill with the cruise set at 75. It pulls great. The blower whine going uphill makes people look over and then jaws drop. What a cool feeling.

Hmm, I used to chat with someone from Atlanta YEARS ago on AOL. She had a turbo Gen 1, and went by Princess23 or something like that. Any chance that was you?

I frequently tow this and heavier without a problem. Power to pull is there. You will have to consider tongue weight as with any rig and you may need air bags. Gas mileage is not terrific.. 8-)

I was under the impression that you should not tow with a 4#er or more lower pulley.

I have a 8# lower a Kenne Bell and I towed my Focus 300 miles.I know it doesn't weigh much but I din't have any problems.

I would talk to your tuner and tell him what you plan to tow, and he can tell you if your chip is ok to tow with.

I even won a race or two towing the focus
