Bad Fuel Pumps? Anyone Else?

This same exact problem happened to two different trucks. Both trucks were set up by the same shop and have EXACTLY IDENTICAL mods. My brother has one of the trucks and it's an 01. One day the truck freaked out and wouldn't let you apply more than 1/10th of the throttle. It would shake really bad like it had a serious miss if you pushed the gas pedal down more than one inch. We took it back to the shop and the guy said "sounds like the fuel pumps quit". So...
they changed the fuel pumps (supposedly) along with some new plugs. The truck has been fine ever since. Now my friends 03 is doin the same thing. He has yet to take it anywhere. So now I wanna leave my stock 03 alone (stock) because of this. What does this mean? If I add a pulley and chip the fuel pumps go bad? Or did the plugs go bad and we ended up paying $500 bucks for a simple plug change?

Fuel pumps don't generally go bad. What happens is the lines coming off the pumps get loose and then eventually blow off one of the pumps, killing all your fuel pressure. The result is usually that the truck will idle, but nothing else. This is a common problem on 99/00s, as Ford used a crimp on hose clamp that was a little too big and didn't tighten enough. The 01-up usually don't have this problem as they have a worm style clamp, but I have heard of it happening to a couple of them.

I love all this new info I come across sometimes. Ford`s little mis-engineering faults makes me feel like I`m driving a time-bomb.

Had it happen on my '01 and Sal nailed the problem right on the head

A SLOOOOW and painful trip to the dealer later, a new fuel pump, and all was well.

I've seen the same problem, only the fuel pump relay came loose from the holder and was corroded. Cleaned up and ran great

There not time bombs. Every manufacture has hickups that can't be forseen until they get put through the trials and tribulations of daily driving. All car companies have recalls for minor stuff. When I change the fuel pumps on my 00' I could get those s***** clamps of to save my life. I had to cut them off.

My fuel pump went bad at about 17000 miles on my 02L. Then my mass air flow sensor went out only a month later. But I'm at 26000 miles now and no problems except for the clunk.
