A buddie of mine that I work with wants to race my truck. He swears up and down that the Porsche Cayenne Turbo SUV he is getting with smoke the L off the road. So I went and did some homework and heres what I came up with. It come with a 4.5L twin-turbo V8 that has AWD. Reported by motor trend that it will clip off a 13.79 1/4 mile time at 102mph. With a HP/Torque rating of 450/460. My only mod is the PSP fast-air filter kit. So what do you guys think, I think I'll have no prob. taking an $89,000 SUV Just curious before I tell him that were going to the track.

 

Well as you are stock it will be close. You had better launch real well.

All you need to do is get one of your better launches...but then again, what had motor trend rated the lightning at back in the day? Im quite sure its more than the 13.7 that you got. So maybe the porsche can actually do a bit better than the 13.79 they got...lets sure as hell hope not though...It technically is the fastest SUV though...good luck!

This race will be at a track right? So assuming that, I'd say he would take you. All he has to do is powerbrake the snot out of it and release the brakes. You in a stock lightning and the only chance you'd have is good weather, a very good launch, and luck that he mess's something up.

NOW! I don't wanna see a Lightning loose either. So.... get you a 4# lower and a chip, learn to launch a few times at the track. THEN take him down.

you could go with the driver vs driver theory instead of machine vs machine. if your a good driver then walk him.Him being in a new vehicle and being unfamiliar will be a good advantage for you. does this guy have any race driving experience? buying an 89,000 suv i would think not. you could spend a little bit of money and get a pully and tune.

All I have ever seen them do down here is a 10 sec 1/8 mile, so thye must come on real strong for the other half.

 

Thanks for all the feedback. I know it would be close so basically it comes down to the driver. Yes, he said he is getting the stick not sure if its a 5 or 6 speed. I know def. that a 4lber and a chip would smoke him, but I wanted to stay stock (basically) until warr. runs out. But I do like JDM02SVT idea about the slicks. No he does not have any racing experience. This race is just for fun and if he beats me oh well. I could match the price of his SUV in mods and then he would never know what hit him.

 

Syclone is a pickup truck, the Typhoon is the SUV platform. They're both AWD, but their body styles are very different, I know, I've owned one of each. John H
