In need of new radar detector... not Valentine
I don't understand some people. Smaller overall with front AND rear antennaes. I guess you can get the one that looks prettier to you. I'll stick with the best. V1
IT isn't a case of which one is prettier. I wouldn't buy that detector either. It is another brick.
I am just pointing out with reference to Valentine that I'd like to see an update in the design. I know it is a great detector, no criticism there.

I would guess that the overall shape of the V1 hasn't changed because Valentine has a policy of forever upgradeable. If they changed the case design, then they would not be able to update all the current V1s out there without replacing them.
The V1 vs. everything else arguement (also note the V1 is what all other detectors are compared to) is kind of like the Lightning vs. everything else arguement - the naysayers will never understand until they OWN one
. (notice nobody ever says "I got rid of my V1 for Brand X detector)

I have read a bunch of tests and the V1 and the Passport 8500 rate very close to each other. You can't go wrong with either one of them, the V1 wins some in some tests, while the 8500 wins in others. There is not much of a differance between the two.
I personally have had both, my V1 got stollen a few years back, and I now have the Passport 8500. I am very happy with it, and don't really notice any differance between the two.
