Parts help for a UK Lightning owner

Hi all

My first post here so hello to all!

I have a 2003 Lightning which I've owned since July this year (and I must say it's an awesome piece of machinery)!

Unfortunately some kind road user took it upon themselves to break the glass in my passenger side mirror over the weekend.

I have managed to order the glass/backing plate complete from a parts supplier here, however I need the white plastic 'pop-in' jack screws that pop into the back of the backing plate on the mirror and then into the guides on the mirror assembly itself.

I understand these cannot be purchased separately and that the only alternative is to purchase the entire mirror assembly at huge cost (which is uneconomical as there is no damage to the rest of the unit at all).

I wondered if anyone here had any ideas or suggestions (or even any parts lying around?????!!!!)

It looks like these parts are the same for Explorers too.

Any help would be most kindly appreciated!

Best Regards to all
Danny

I wish I had an answer but I don't. But, having lived in Europe for a couple of years, you have a very unique vehicle for that part of the world and must attract alot of attention.

Yes, the truck is certainly 'popular' when I'm out and about. There seem to be a few around in the UK and one or two celebrities have them as 'toys'!

As I mentioned - getting bits isn't too hard if you don't mind buying new parts but for these jackscrews I need a good breakers yard or scrap dealer - unfortunately we don't get many scrap Explorers or Ford pickups over here so I cannot browse for these bits.

I'm sure there's a totalled explorer sitting in a yard somewhere in the states that would be the donor for the parts I need! Guess if I hit a blank I'll have to take a look around on my next trip Stateside!

Hey Stormyguy,
Just as much as you get all the attention with your Canadian/American truck, I get a ton of attention with my European Mini Coopers (Pre BMW) Heres a link to one of my cars:

Danny,

Sorry to go OT, can't help you with the parts.
But can you say something about the ride quality and fuel usage of the Lightning.(Is it stock?)
Also does the engine run really smooth or has it a bit of rough idle.

I would have emailed you but your emailadres was disabled.

TIA

Thanks for all the help and replies!

007: Nice mini's - a pal of mine has a v.cool pickup - I will have to get you a pic of it!

f150europe: I findthe fuel economy reallynot too bad. I haven't yet been on a v.long run but the 'pottering around' I do is pretty reasonable fuel-wise. The ride could be a bit firmer - quite spongy but of course you've not a lot over the back wheels! I'd like a bit more shock beforeI went into any corners at any speed!! In fact the suspension isprob what I would look at changing first!

When at idle my engine is just fine and nice and smooth so far! The s/c is the ultimate kit though- you can scare people with the noise of that thing!!!

Cheers
Danny
