Pinging with a 10:1 AFR?

Running too lean can/does cause pinging, right?
So if your pinging, richening up the mixture should stop the pinging, right?

Well, 10:1 is pretty rich in my book, does it sound right that Im still pinging?

Granted, it is 45º outside, but still.

I was cruising at 35 and punched it, it downshifted and I kept on it from about 2-4k rpm. It was pinging the whole time. This was done on just 91oct. Maybe because its soo cold it still pings but I just dont think it should be with that rich of a mixture.

Am I on track here, or am I way off....?

More than likely you have too much timing but too much fuel can also cause detonation.

Really? Thats news to me. Too much fuel can cause detonation? So in your opinion is 10:1 too much fuel? Enough to be causing detonation? I doubt its too much timing, I dont know exactly how much I have but its less then stock...

In my opinion 10:1 is too rich, Is it too much to cause detonation ? I dont know. I do know 2 things cause detonation, Fuel and timing. So you do have 1 of the 2 off, It is possible that you have bad fuel ? Im not going to guess at a fuel filter or bad pump because you have said that you have a 10:1 A/F ratio, that means that fuel is present.

Does it ping bad on the stock computer with stock boost levels? Have you changed your fuel filter lately? Have you looked to maek shure the plugs are still in working order?Do you think the mass air is bad or unpluged? Im just throwing ideas at man hoping you get it running. DO you know anyone that could data log it to watch it real close? IF all that checks out good you might try a gallon or two of toulene to bringthe octane up and see if it runs. Im running a chip with an a/f of 11.6 and 12 degrees timming with 93 octane and 4lb lower with no pinging in 30 degree weather and the boost gauge recall showed 13.5 the last time i drove it.

So im probly not going to go test the truck out cuz of the rain

But in the meantime - Can anyone tell me a little more about how running too rich can cause pinging?

BTW i read most of the superchips guy posts about CA gas and I run chevron gas so I shouldnt be having these problems???
