Question Wet pass side carpet - what's this about?

I noticed a hot smell in my truck today and after nosing around to see what it wa from, I noticed the carpet on the passenger side was wet. Not sure why it smelled hot. There was water under the floor mat and on top of the floor mat. When I got home I pulled the trim and lifted the carpet, It has a rubber backing and it was dry under it. So I guess it's leaking somewhere back of the firewall where some dripped down on the floor mat and some above the top of the floor mat. Anyone had any problems with this? It rained last week and I washed the truck yesterday in the driveway. I've probably had the AC on some for fogged windows and muggy days. Trucks only 4 months old and I hate to have to take it to the dealer. Rats!!

that happened to me once, i thought the drain from the a/c might of been disconnected but it never happened again. I had been ripping around come corners and i thought that the condensation might of splashed out or something.

If it smelled hot then I would say heater core as well. Regardless, I would get it into the dealer asap to get what ever is leaking repaired before you end up with a mold/mildew problem...

If it's just water, then it won't be a heater core, but if it has kind of a sweet odor to it, then it could very well be a heater core. Used anti freeze will have a burning sweet odor.

With that said, I think if it is a heater core the vehicle will fog up bad to.

It seems to be just water. The binding on the transmission side of the floor mat did have some crud on it but I didn't notice any on the carpet or carpet part of the mat. No fogging and no distinct smell or antifreeze smell. The hot smell is strange - didn't notice it before this morning. I wet vac'd it out, put some baking soda on the carpet and set a fan on it. It's suppose to rain tomorrow so I'll drape some plastic up under by the firewall as high as I can and see if anything collects and if I still get the smell. Never had a car that wasn't at least 25 years old before it leaked inside.

I-menace, were you in the passengers seat when it splashed on you? I think the heater and AC equip are on that side unless it collected in the ductwork.

Thanks guys

I had a similar problem here when it was extremely humid outside and I had the A/C on for a while. It never had any scent to it and appeared to be water. Hasn't happened in a few months though...

Same thing happened to me when I got my truck. Everytime I washed it or it rained, the driver's side carpet got wet. Turned out to be a leak by the hood fender area. Take it to the dealer and they should find and fix with no problem. Don't worry too much about. Just get it to the dealer.
