Full of hot air or not...

I recently installed the Airforce One intake system and have definitely noticed better throttle response. I know it brings in cool air from outside, and at the same time brings in hot air from the engine. I noticed that many of you have enclosed air boxes. Do those boxes really keep out the hot air? Wouldn’t the box and filter get hot since it is in the engine compartment? And also with the filter being inside these boxes aren’t they getting less air then an open-air filter? I am looking for some input on this. Please advise.

I suppose that a fresh air intake would always be the best. Afterall they came that way from the factory for a reason (or 20. )

But since our motors have an intercooler sitting under the blower, a considerable temp decrease takes place from that alone.

I've spent time doing temp studies and the area I've seen an open element raise the temps most is after heat soaks. Either slow moving traffic or after being parked with the hood closed for 10-15 minutes. Afterwards it takes high speed or just time to get the intake charge back to ambient temps. (or close to it)

I reckon it all depends on how you want to use your truck. When I run at the track, I always give it a 1/2 hour cooldown with the hood open in between runs. And my temps just as I'm starting the run are anywhere from ambient to 20deg F over.

I do plan on building my own this winter though as I'd like to just give it a try and see if it makes a diff.

Thats why I like the JLP so much

You kind of need an open top box to take some air in while
your idling and moving in slow traffic.

Once moving it also takes air in from the Factory Fender inlet
And of course also from out side up front where it's nice + cool

With air coming from 3 directions and having the sides block out
some heat from the engine compartment, I think it equals the best system out there

Sounds like your's is simular and should be expected to give you
the same great results me and others have with the JLP set up.
But like Rich just said, nothing is more important than a proper
cool down.

"OR" you could just squirt sub zero down it's throat like I do

Thanks for the input.

Wydopnthrtl - After being parked I bet it would take a while to cool to ambient temps. Having the hood up between runs is a good idea.

Rob_02Lightning - I like the JLP set up. And thanks, now I need some juice. Man here I go, I just can’t leave well enough alone.
