Why is the 3rd back SOOO problematic???

Mine blew #3 back on the passenger side as well...

I've read A LOT of other posts where that was the plug that typically goes.

Suprise.Suprise.

Ford says they will NOT assist me and my dealer said they will do a tap and die procedure for $645. Well thats the last Ford I will ever own again. The sad part is that they won't even give me a reason for not replacing it. F Ford.

I'm sick of this chit too.

I swear I'm half tempted to pop the hood of my prefectly running truck and give the 3rd one back a little extra twist BEFORE my warranty is up or mod-voided.

Ford deserves it....but no, I couldn't allow myself to sink to their level.

You know... I have had my 01 since new. I have never had hardly a problem with it. I just rolled over my 36k warranty and I have no extended warranty because Ford would just void it anyway. To be honest with you guys, I am terrified about my heads giving up a plug. When ever I drive my truck these days it is always on my mind on every drive... is this the drive when a plug is going to go?... it really takes a lot of fun out of owning a Lightning... the fear that it could break at any time because of a design flaw that Ford wont own up to. Its just sad really.

My 01 Lightning blew 3rd plug on passenger side this past summer at 29K miles. (Goofy SVT mechanics replaced all the valve lash adjusters thinking my reported "ticking" noise was coming from there instead of checking the plugs like I asked) Ford replaced the head under warranty with the improved version that has more threads.

I e-mailed Ford corporate offices and complained of the widespread plug popping and got a call back from them. They asked did I have an extended warranty and said they were looking into my complaint. That was back in June 03' and I haven't heard a thing since then and don't expect to. Why would they care if I had an extended warranty when it was still under the 3/36,000??

Since then I've not heard any more sounds like loose plugs, but
I've decided that I couldn't afford to pay for a new head if this crap ever happens again so now I'm getting an extended warranty just to be safe.

You all have nothing to complain about,,,, i've went through 2 engines within 2 months of each other. Thats right, blew a hole through the block, got it replaced, and then bam,,, brand new engine, not a single mod,, there she went. I then persisted to sell my L and rebuild an 87 jeep, paint it sonic blue and place a blown mustang cobra 5.0 engine in it. lol,, i've got the worst luck with cars period though,,, it blew its brand new tranny in lets see,,, 150 miles,,,,, thank the good lord for warrenties. And hey lets face it, Ford has to be picky about what they warrenty on vehicles. To ad and change the post regarding a girlfriends ***** and bad heart here we go.

It would be like riding a roller coaster when you have a bad heart and there is a sing right next to the coaster which states it is strongly reccomended no one with heart problems ride the coaster. And of course croaking when you do ride it.

It would be like setting your own house on fire to collect insurance money. We all have to face it, there are many many people out there that its their entire fault their vehicle blew up,,, and its up to ford to fish everyone out. Its a tough job both ways.

Great post......This is exactly how I feel when I DAILY drive my L.

My confidence is G-O-N-E.

That and I can't STAND anyone who has NO INTEGRITY which unfortunately for us is FORD.

I even talked a friend out of a new Ford GT, he's staying w/Ferrari/Porsche.
FU Ford.
