? About Coding Keys For Remote Start

Hey guys...
I talked my mom into getting me a remote start for the L for Christmas.....but the place I called says they need a key from me to disable the PATS system in the car...I called up Ford and asked how much for another coded key and the lady told me $26 for the key, $80!! for the coding......nevertheless I heard theres a way to code the key yourself if you have 2 coded keys, which I do from when I originally bought the truck....Can Anyone Please Tell me How I code the key myself....I really dont wanna have to pay $106 for just the key to get my present to work...Thanks in Advance.

Josh

Those systems only need the chip in the key, doesn't even matter if it's cut or not, but there's bypass modules out that don't require a key. I highly recommend looking for one. Mine is made by DEI (Viper, Clifford, Avital, etc, etc)... I've got an Avistart in mine.

They program the PATS bypass module the exact same way you
program the extra key.... you do need the two keys to do it, so
remmeber to bring them with ya. If the system requires a REAL
key, then it is an older system, and will still owrk you just have
to buy the key and follow the instructions in the OWNERS MANUAL
to program it.

I have the Codealarm and love it. I found their little black box with a key blank in it and made them come out and replace it with a key emulator. I didn't like the idea that someone could gain acess to that key blank, pop the Ignition switch and put the blank near the column to start the vehicle.

One note; The installer sold me a third transmitter for short money and then I cut the blank, so Now I have 3 complete sets (maybe overkill??).

how much does the Clifford Remote Start and Alarm retail for ???
I already have the factory keyless entry and alarm, but I dunno I guess I could disable that and put in something else....I know one thing though, my mom isnt spending 600 bucks so I dont have to go out and start my truck and get to be lazy...

if you wait until tomorrow i can see if my buddy can hook you up to....you'd have to drive to Poughkeepsie to get it done, but to save $250 it will be worth it. The system retails for $600, i'm sure you could get it installed for like $450 or $500 at other places....i wanted to check and see how much my buddy was saving me and the local boomer mcloud (sp) wanted $565 for the unit and install....so $350 is freaking worth it. Let me know if you are interested...I usually drive 20-40 minutes to get to a job (construction) so i like the truck to have time to warm up and idle for a while, seems to run better that way. It can be started from up to a half mile away and the transmitter will tell you what part of the car is being *violated*, like the hood, driver's door, glass, etc....pretty cool unit....let me know if you are interested...Or anyone else in the NY, NJ, CT area...

Hey LightningCT, I just realized we met at the dyno day on LI
Can you get a check on how much the Clifford is compared to the viper system...? I dunno if I'll be able to get my mom to go for even 350, but she may pay for part of it and I'll have to pay the difference...thanks

If you have two keys already programmed, you just need to follow the instructions in the owners manual to program it. If you do not then you will have to pay someone with an NGS to program it for you.

Josh - he can install it on sat. he's closed on sunday, but he's really busy before xmas, so it would have to wait until after xmas anyway. I don't mind taking the day to drive up there with you, he's going to put a head unit in and some other audio stuff for me (as he does for all my cars) so if we could coordinate we could go up together....the install only takes like 2 hrs...I worked at a gun club about 15 minutes away from his shop, we could go and shoot skeet or sporting clays (shotguns) while our trucks are getting done (he'll give me his truck).....let me know.... and if you don't know how to shoot i can teach you (i was an instructor!!!)
