How to mount tweeters?

i just bought a set of Focal 165A 6.5" Component speakers off ebay.... I saw a few threads back on how to install the 6.5s in the door... just make a little deally over the hole in the door...

but i was thinking of doing something like this for my tweeters... anyone have a link to a "how to" or just know??? im guessing just drill a small hole for the speaker wire to go through... am i correct?

I know that to get the best sound you want to get the tweeters as close to the speakers as possible. Otherwise you'll hear mostly high ends because they'll overpower the rest of your system. But as far as installing the tweeter up there, I have no idea how to do it.

You'll just pop off the door cover, and drill out, then mount.

Really easy, actually. The corssovers can also be mounted inside the door, so you dont have to run 2 sets of wires through each door wire loom.

Your best bet is to put the tweeters closer to the mids, or a spot that it equi-distant to your ear (i.e. the distance from the mid to your ear, should be as close as possible as the tweeter to your ear).

I put mine in my A pillars, near the bottom, pointing toward the windshield, giving me about the same distance (in sound wave) as they would be if mounted in the door.

Best thing to do, is get all your speakers and crossovers installed, except for the tweeter. Attach the tweeters to the crossover with a long speaker wire. This will allow you to move the tweeter around in different locations on the door while listening to it. You can use velcro to temporarily attach the tweeter to the door. Once you find the best sounding spot, then you will need to cut out a hole so you can pop the tweeter cup into it and attach your tweeter. The instructions should say what size hole to cut or maybe they provided a template. If you're unsure, have a shop do it for you, as a door panel can be expensive to replace if you mess up.

I'm not sure how the Focal mount, but it will depend on whether it is a surface mount, or a flush mount. My Polk Momos are flush mount so they actually had to cut the leather weave. They taped off the area first, drilled a pilot hole, then carefully used a holesaw to cut through the material.

One thing you want to do is mount the tweeter as far forward as possible. This will help move the soundstage forward, and moves the driver's side tweeter a little further away from your ear.

That is the only part of my system I did not do myself. I like to be able to blame someone else if something really gets screwed up, so I just passed to buck. Paid about 50-60 bucks for my local installer to set em up.

Took em just an hour or so to do, and we played with the locations a bit like MaxTorque said and I liked this the best. Good luck with em.

How much you pay for them Focals?

That's a good price and they are very nice speakers. Those were some I was actually looking to put in my Mustang a few months ago, but I found a pair of Kicker Resolutions 6c for a little cheaper. Now hook those up to a PG 300.2 and you will have an excellent sounding system.
