She loves the cooler weather but..........

When I hit it wide open she starts breaking up. Under normal driving it runs fine. I've had the fuel pumps replaced once already. Is it possible they could have gone bad again? Or how about condensation in my gas tank? The truck sat for about 2 weeks with very low fuel in it.

Any ideas guys?

Oh yeah shes a 2001 completely stock.

Thanks, Saw

You sure you don't have a toasted plug
or two ?

HOPE NOT but that would do it, happen to me a while back.
You would be very surprised how good a L can run with
some melted plugs. Good until WOT that is ???
Just a thought, hope I'm wrong

Clogged fuel filter and or injector of course would do it too,
throw some good inj cleaner in it, a nice hi octane fuel, and
see how she is ?

BEST OF LUCK, please keep us informed

He said it is completely stock so it can't be the summer tune. I'd check the fuel filter first. Hope it works out for you!

If it's sputtering at WOT then my bet is a plug or most likely a coil pack.

If it is a plug, what would cause it to foul out like that? I run nothing but 93 octane in it. Or do you mean its about to launch one?
Man this truck has been good so far. I hope it isnt going to start giving me problems now.

i just had my plugs replaced today by ford (went with the denso IT20's). I told the guy that there was some breakup at WOT and he told me that the coil packs have a rubber boot that can crack, causing that breakup at WOT or when towing a heavy load...if you go to ford they can hook it up to a diagnostic setup and check the thing for you....good luck though....oh, by the way, with the denso's i don't feel any breakup or detonation.....recommend them...

Saw,
You made a comment that a fuel pump went bad in the past.

Lightning 101 is """IF""" it runs lean, EVEN FOR SECONDS,
one of two things will happen ?
One is you melt a plug or 3, and two is the Motor goes BOOM.
All it takes is seconds, when my original Fuel Filter starting to flow less, I happen to be at the track, in a matter of seconds it went
lean and melted 3 plugs, I was extemly lucky thats all that happen. And for the record this happen when the truck was BRAND NEW, the problem started @ 3k, and I didn't realize it was a filter, who would think a filter is clogging on a $37,000 truck in 12 weeks, (it almost cost me a motor).

This is one of the reasons I think it's a plug. It could have melted a tip or lost some porc and only now it's starting to jump spark all over and not fire correctly, especially at WOT with the extra Fuel
and timing the Computer is adding for the Cold weather.
Lightning 101 again is our Computer will add up to 3 degrees of timing in the cold weather. Basically the colder the air, the more fuel and timing it will ad. This will also add cylinder pressure.

Think of it this way, "the extra wind is blowing out the candle"
because the protective covering around it, is no longer there.

Only a hunch, but it's a good hunch unfortunatly
If the plugs haven't been changed in a while OR EVER,
I hate to tell you, but it's time to do it.

Of course it could be a Coil, Clogged Injector, Fuel Filter, Pump, etc... but my hunch is ---> a plug or 3.
Obviously I could be wrong too ?
