I put one on my truck. I got mine at Advanced Auto Parts for $5.00. mines the one that is still wire, but it's got a spiral in the middle. Haven't had a single problem with picking up radio stations. Hope this helps.

Take your factory one off. Pull the little ball off of the end, cut the desired amount off (up to about 6", you can even go into the spirals) and press the ball back on. If you want the stainless look acetone it. I've bought the billet on my last two trucks and ended up doing the above procedure. When I put the 14" billets on I lost reception in both cases. It won't end up as highly polished but it's much tougher.

I just cut 7 inches off mine and acetoned the paint off. How do i get the base off? I want to paint it white to match the truck. Also how do i get the ball off the end of the antena? Great easy free mod to do since there was nothing else to do.

Just put it in a vise jerk down on it and the ball will pop off.

Do you guys think we need to clearcoat the bare antenna after acetoning the paint off?

14 inches and red tipped. Used Elmers stix-all to hold the ball in place then dipped it in Plasti-Kote

A pair of electrical pliers with a squeeze hole big enough to go around the antenna loosely works well. Put it around the antenna, get a few inches run at the ball and slide with a slight amount of speed toward the ball. It will pop off quite easily. The base of the antenna is just pressed on. You can use a small thin bladed screwdriver to pop off. Be very careful of the paint you could scratch it easliy if you go to sleep on this one. You can use sand paper, file or other abrasive to slightly bevel the shortened antenna tip. I used a belt sander. The ball pops back on with a couple of whacks with a plastic hammer.
