However.... We (tier 1 supplier) impregnate the operating surfaces of the vital parts to protect against the infrequient startups, thermocycles, and just general hard use before break in (1st few thousand miles). Adding a full synthetic environment before those impregnated oils have a chance to wear off just is not recommended from this Motown engineer.

Was this impregnation process any different with the Cobra R engine?

Changed oil at 1300 miles to mobil 1 0w20. Drove it 100 miles then dyno'ed it. No leaks, no blow by. Motorcraft filter. I used to to have this big oil filter test online but I don't remember where it was. Basically said that the Purolator Pureone and Motorcraft were made by the same company but the motorcraft had an organic element and the Purolator had a synthetic. The motorcraft is also 1/2 the price.

I am with Rich on this. Wait 10,000 miles before going to a fully synthetic oil. Use Motorcraft 5-20.

Could you explain the reasoning behind this? I can understand that the slight amout of coating that can get mixed in with the oil would slightly dilute the benefit of 100% synthetic, but it wouldn't be any different than the dino oil being slightly diluted. Tim Skelton brings up a good point regarding many performance cars and highend cars coming from the factory with a synthetic fill. I assume most of those have some sort of coating impregnated on assembly also.

I guess I should of looked here this morning. Iv already changed the oil with Mobil 1 5W-30. It still shouldn't hurt anything will it?

Uh oh. The superhydrogenous friction stabilization coefficient will be dramatically mitigated by the annhydrous compounds in the pure base volitile lubricants. Your engine has already begun the process of transmogrification, which cannot at this point be reversed. If I were you, I would have the truck immediately picked up on a flatbed and taken to Ford for a flux capacitor rehydration.

Just kidding. Let's have some pie.

Once the motor is broken in, you are good to go with synthetic oil.

On high performance motorcycles, we generally consider 1000 miles fully broken in, although some manufacturers go as low as 600 miles.

The generally held principle is that synthetic is too slick to allow proper seating of the rings and other close contact hard parts.

I run dino oil on any engine I own through break-in and then its synthetic after that.

I'll change the oil in my new FX4 @ 2k miles and then synthetic will go in. As I always say, by 2000 miles, its as broke-in as its gonna get.

I would follow what your owners manual says ..... not "the tech" and I would check your oil level on your truck and make sure its not over-filled.

back to topic: I would use Motorcraft oil and filter and change it every 3k or so. But, the Mobile 1 will do fine ...just cost more... what are your oil change intervals going to be with the Mobile 1 ????

About every 3000 miles or so.

BTW, one thing has come to mind after I changed the oil. How often does the oil in the supercharger need to be changed and what kind off oil does it take?
