Unhappy Help! P0401 - EGR Flow Insufficient?

I have cleared this code twice and it has come back on.
What should I check for? Im pretty sure I put the two tubes that come from the EGR tube to the MAP (i think its a MAP) on right. The EGR tube is on tightley. Im pretty sure the vaccume line is hooked up right. What should I do guys???

Thanks.

the most comun cause of that code is the dpfe sensor,is the sensor where the egr tube silicone hoses plug too.

is the dpfe sensor the silver one circled in this pic?

How can I test if that is the problem? How much does a new one cost? What does the dpfe sensor do?

Thanks...

one thing I just thought of.

when i cleaned the i/c i had to disconnect those hoses during the removal process. could that code be caused by the two tubes being switched. i wouldnt think so because both tubes go to the egr tube, but it could make a difference.

I unplugged the hoses and harness and just cleaned everything up a little bit to see if that would help. Then I cleared the codes and went for a test drive. After about 20 miles my ses light didnt go on so I thought everything was good. Went to go scan the computer and guess what, P0401 again? Why didnt it throw a light this time? I did some research and found that DPFE sensor failure is common. Should I go ahead and order a new sensor ($60), or is there something else I can do? How can I check to see if the sensor is bad?

Its the DPFE...they ALWAYS go bad...their was even a TSB on them. Replace it, thats your problem. Then clear the code.

dealer replced my DPFE 3 times, and still kept getting the code... I finally noticed that the vacume line had burnt/melted through while due to the tube - pointed this out to the dealer - havn't had problems since!

my vacume line used to lay across the exhaust/heated tube

looking at that picture your egr valve vaccume tube is running under the exhaust tube and more than likely has a hole burnt in it. Not likely any parts failed since you were messing with it all more likely you left something disconnected or reconnected wrong. But I would look at that vaccume line running under the exhaust tube that goes to the top of the egr valve.

Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner!

Well I went to go check the vaccume hose, and sure enough it is melted. When the hose connects to the egr valve its green. So is the black part of the hose just a covering for the green part? Or does the hose change? Because from what I can tell, its just the black part that is melted?? I didnt go throught to the green(if there is green under it)

Where can I get a new hose??

You can cut and splice it or buy some plastic tubing at the local hardware. Keep it away from that exhaust tube, it gets very hot.

My hose melted about a month after i got my truck. I was out riding around town one night and a SES light came on. Pulled over poped the hood and looked around. Shure enougth the green hose was melted in half.

Got myself a new hose. Cleared all codes. Went for a short 10 mile trip. No SES light, no codes!

Thanks guys!
