Question Broken idler?

To make a long story short.....I was swapping TB's and one of Sal's N2O plate plugs fell into the acces. belt drive idler form behind. So I unbolted the idler and upon reinstalling the da** thinf snapped right off form the block.....How bad is this situation??? It was the idler on the drivers side of the block....

Good thing was....found plug and fixed the problem to my other thread....

So I take it this is a semi-common thing?? Will the acces. belt work without this idler? I was able to get a longer bolt and screw it on as tight as I could but with only half the mount there, what will happen??

maybe stick some JB weld on it. If not you can remove the lower pulley the harmonic balancer, fan, all the other crap attached to the front of the engine, a couple of oil pan bolts and remove the front cover and buy an new one to replace the old one.

Well i didnt break mine myself but an idler locked up broke the mount for the idler. I had to order the hole support for the s/c idlers and 2 new idlers. I have been without boost for the last three weeks now and still waiting on the parts.

are you talking about an idler that the s/c belt rides agains or an idler that the acc belt rides against?

If it's a S/c idler you can just get a new bracket

if it's a acc idler you need to buy a whole timing chain cover here is a pic of what it looks like:

and when you remove it this is what you see:

Da** this site rocks!! You guys have been more than helpful. Spanky99, in the first picture, the idler that you see on the right hand side, is the one that broke. It looks like the mount snapped or cracked off. I was able to rig a new bolt with washer to getr it pretty tight against the block. How well will this work with only half a mount?? I am going to take it to Ford tomorrow to see what they say about warrantying it. Thanks again for the help everyone!

I think you will find there is no problem running without the idler on the right (drivers side). The one on the passenger side is necessary for the belt to wrap around the tensioner.

Thank you Mad.....That info just solved all my questions! I was worried about slip but to be honest that idler doesnt seem like it does that much...I am sure it does but it just doesnt seem like it. Thanks again all!!
