Will the Dodge R/t 10 be a threat?
What do you think?
Just finished reading the Trucking magazine article about the Dodge R/T 10. This is nothing but a Viper in trucks clothing.
Until Ford releases the new Lighting, This maybe the "fastest"
production pick-up produced. Even if it is in limited production.

I personally don't think so.However with a "advertised 500 h.p. & 525 ft. lbs. of torque, for stock ratings", it looks impressive.
Maybe Ford will see fit to equip the Lighting with the G.T. 40 engine setup. We can only hope.
Ford svt started this mess, maybe they will see fit to finish it.
On the contrary, Dodge started it, then GMC picked it up, then Chevy, then Ford... then Dodge again, then Ford, now Dodge again.
(Lil Red Express -> Sy -> 454SS -> Lightning -> R/T -> Lightning -> SRT-10). Took Ford nearly 10 years to take the trophy away from the Syclone.

That statement's only partially true, at best. The st/ty's were fast no doubt, but they could barely haul/tow anything. The Fords were always a cut above the rest in the quality department too. The lil red express truck was a honda compared to the quality issues with the sy/tys. The new rt10 will be faster yes, but you think you have trouble getting a modded L fixed, wait til these guys go by their 'friendly dodge dealer' and try to get theirs repaired under warranty.
Honestly, if you discuss HP and TQ and being a threat, you're comparing power and E/Ts. The rest is just justifications for why vehicle A is better even though it's not #1 in the power category. Of course, that could go both ways. If a Gen2 does beat an SRT, at least the SRT has a better warranty and stereo
I don't see how the statement could be false, it's a factual timeline of how the trucks came to be. And, it did take Ford until '01 to produce a vehicle that was as fast, stock, as a Syclone.
If you want to get into a comparison of the secondary characteristics of a sport truck, then you have to take in account all of them: handling, tires, comfort, seats, interior space, stereos, modability, cost effectiveness, reliability, payload, vehicle size, gas mileage, towing capability, ease of repair, etc. That would just too much time to compare, and someone will always take one or another of those to show how vehicle A is better than vehicle B, even if vehicle B is better than A in other of those characteristics.

How is the 7/70 non-transferrable warranty of dodges' better than the L warranty? You cannot use that as a bargaining chip if you choose to sell the rt-10 later. With dodges' reputation, i will be surprised if the air bags actually deploy in that truck after an accident, having seen my cousins' 2000 sebring 'vert after a frontal impact(non-deployment). I'll take my reliable '01 any day over a Daimler-Benz.

The Dodge mite have more HP and TQ , but it has a disadvantage, its stick shift. By the time they shift and if they do a good shift the L is gone. Ive raced several camaros and mustangs and the shifting time sets them back. The Dodge mite look better and faster, magazines mite talk and compare, but talk is talk and walk is walk. Until they put one side by side it will remain all words.
