Do Deer Whistles Work?

I live in a deer-infested area and regularly see the results of auto-animal collisions on the roads near my home. Do those deer-whistles I see on Bubba's truck actually work? If so, I may want to pick one up as it's cheap insurance. Maybe mount it under the bumper or something so it still gets airflow but is out of sight...

I put some on my daily car. My uncle is a State Trooper and they have them on their cruisers.

Deer whistles get the attention of deer, and other animals. This could be good, or bad... Example.. a deer is minding his own buisness, eating some grass on the side of the road, its dark, and he hears an annoying whistle, he is frightned, he jumps and runs... RIGHT INTO THE ROAD... Example... deer is in the middle of the road, sees a light coming, and an annoying whistle. He also is frightned, but he cant seem to move.. Now, I know many people who swear by them. But this is my opinion. A good set of Silverstar headlights, slow down at night, and pay attention. That will be the best defense. JMO

My friend use to say how great they are and how well they work until he slammed into a deer…

Must have been a real stupid deer…

I drive an 18 wheeler for a living now. A guy from work told about a driver that kept hitting deer. He installed deer whistles. After that it seems as he hit 6 owls. LOL I guess they attracted the owls??

I travel alot of roads with elk, deer, cows, bears, horses, javelina, and whatever else may be running loose.

Oct. 13th 11p.m..........I left 143' of skid marks from an empty trailer, then, I swerved the tractor to miss a horse..........it walked into my trailer. Killed the horse instantly. This area is not open range. Two people from nearby farms came out that night and said " Nope. It's not my horse." The horse had shoes on it and was clearly someones riding horse. This is sad, and shows the irresponsibility of some horse owners.

It scared the carp out of me.

Now I have an animal phobia. I see things that are not there. LOL

I have used deer whistles every deer season for 20 years and have never successfully called one to the stand..........so I would say they don't work.

There was a news story, 60 minutes?, about the rising number of deer in the US causing accidents everywhere. They want to possibly extend deer hunting season but the animal rights activists are against it. What will help was asked and deer whistles came up. They were reported as useless. Driving slower and watching for deer in heavily populated areas is the only answer until there is a way to thin out the deer population. I dodge them pulling into the parking lot at work. Something does need to be done. Just another reason for the insurance dictators to raise our premiums.
