Arg... Stock muffler: 1 Me: 0
I received my Bassani cat-back last week and with the holiday today thought I'd finally have time to install it.
I tinkered around last night and found that I was able to loosen the bolts without too much trouble. With that as my main concern, I left it for morning feeling good.
Well, 2 hours of pounding with a rubber mallet and 1 bent car jack later, the dang thing is still on there laughing at me.
What's worse, it's a holiday and no exhaust shops are open to help me get the bugger off.
Ok, I'm done ranting.

I used a ratchet strap to help pull mine off. A couple shots of wd-40 and a friend tuggng on it and my stock stuff came off. But mine only had 7,000 miles on it then. Then my JDM catback went on flawlessly. The orange hangers are a bitch to get off also.
It's a little more work, but it will get it off undamaged.
Put the truck on jack stands. Support the trans. with a jack stand. Unbolt the transmission support and remove. Now unbolt the cat pipes at the manifolds, and remove the cat pipes and muffler assy as one unit. Get a friend to hold the muffler and wiggle/pull the cat pipes off one at a time. Then re-install everything.
When they tighten the clamps on the pipes it actaully crimps the pipes, and that's why you can't get them off. When you are pulling/wiggleing you will actually have to unbend/uncrimp the pipes.

rubber mallet?
sweet jesus, get a sledge and be done with it!
you'll dent the hell out of the stock one, but who cares, its garbage anyways.
Climb under truck (head to the front, feet to the back, put your fee on the exhaust pipe where it bends to exit the passenger side push with your feet,
Hit it a few times with the sledge
and make sure when it pops off, it doesn't hit you in th head.
It's heavier than you think laying across your chest, I found out the hard way.
Mine came off in about 20 minutes of climbing under truck
