I've been thinking of going to 3.73's on my '99. Just found gear lube all over the inside of my right rear tire, EEEEERRRR! Maybe it's telling me it's time. My diff cover is badly rusted and the paint is pealing, any suggestions on an inexpensive, non-stock cover? I think the computer needs to be reflashed too. Should I replace the clutches while I'm in there?

My right rear did the same. When i replaced my right rear axle seal and the lube i tossed my diff cover in some parts cleaner (while i did the seal, etc) here at work and the took some 99cent black spray paint and painted it. Looks better than my moms 1 month old f150

I just went to 3.73 on my stock truck and I am very happy with the choice. You will notice that the truck no longer "winds up" and the laydown of the power is smoother and more even. What i noticed is that the truck no longer has to downshift as much to acheive medium power. This is very useful in going around corners and such. My dad still has the 3.55 in his and I get annoyed at how much it has to shift. It makes your truck "feel" faster too. I will bring it down to the track for a time comparison. You will notice that the truck will not coast as much, but I got used to it and like that the gears slow it down more. I got my truck reprogrammed at ford for the new gears...

As far as labor goes, expect about $250.
