New Muscle Mustangs

So I picked up the 15th anniversary issue of MM&FF, and was reading the "Terminator" article when I stumbled upon something that bothered me. It essentially says that they tested a bunch of hardware...which is understandable. However it says they had repeated failures concerning the connecting rod situation. Which sent them to Manley. Because the rod was the weak link. It says...and I quote

"The production rods looked fairly marginal, but we thought, well, let's give them a try. No one's really tested them to see, and we saw they were not sufficient,"

"Knowing going in that people are going to mod their cars, if you go with something like a connecting rod or crankshaft that's borderline for your performance levels, you're just inviting disaster,"

Im sorry for the long post, but this just really pisses me off. This is from the horses mouth. From the production team at SVT. Just flat out saying that the stock rods are crap for high performance applications. And acknowledging the need to beef up the motor so people can mod without fear? Did we get the shaft here or what?

I was a little worried that I might be called a whiner, but after the first two responses I see that I'm not alone.

I also like the part where they say how the Focus was lent out so companys like Jackson Racing could develop blowers, that if installed would void a warranty...doesnt make much sense to develop it then does it?

exactly

they loan out focuses for blowers yet void us for petty bull*****. Last i checked blowers have a higher engine failure rate than chips (properly tuned ones).

also when they responded in the article with this:

"Knowing going in that people are going to mod their cars, if you go with something like a connecting rod or crankshaft that's borderline for your performance levels, you're just inviting disaster,"

SVT knew both cobra and lightning owners were going to mod the hell out of their vehicles yet what did they do for us? they still gave us ****ty rods

Hey FORD-

Dont worry about saving a few pennies per unit with cheap parts...I would glady pay an extra $1000 on the sticker for a better truck at delivery, than the $3000-$5000 a year later on a new lower end. The hobbiest that buy your SVT line vehicles LOVE to spend $$ on them (not repairing them)--its just hard to sit and enjoy driving them when we leave the service dept bleeding from the rectum...

(now stepping down)

I know I am going to get flamed for this but, whatever.

I cut almost 2 seconds off an already fast 13.7 1/4 mile and daily drove my L. I do not consider that to shabby.

SVT F150 ran an 11.37 and drove it home on a STOCK BLOCK. Nemo ran a 11.50 and drove it home on a STOCK BLOCK.

We are pushing the envelope with these motors. I knew I wanted more so I put more into it.

Personally I am very happy with what FoMoCo gave me.

BTW- All the Cobra guys are breaking 1/2 shafts anyway.

There will always be a weak link.

Vinnie,

I have the utmost respect for you, and what you have been able to do. "Fast with class".

And I am happy for what Ford has been able to do, but could it have been done better, without being anymore difficult for them or too much more expensive for us...I think so.

I had to be the devils advocate.

Of course I would have perferred stronger rods and put that money somewhere else.

I do love the fact that I can put a KB on Teris Cobra and not have to worry about the rods.

I got it. I'll put the KB on my half and give Teri the half with the axles.
