Paddle shift ?

Thread on here couple of weeks back regarding some sort of manual control of the gear shift 1-2-3-4 using wheel mounted shift buttons / levers. This is real common on all euro auto`s here in the UK. My X5 has this on the stick, RS Audi`s and AMG Merc`s have shift button`s on the wheel. If our tran`s in the `L`is electronic it would seem that it would be possible. There is a company over here in the UK that offers paddle shift on the X5 fitted from the M3. On our trucks this would be real sweet to have full auto / manual option. I`ll ask over here if it would be possible with sensible $$$. In general driving I`m in and out of overdrive all the time, complete with a nicely timed blip of the throttle on down shift, it sounds real good. I`ll see what I can do find out.

I believe teamSLS is working with JLP and Baumann Engineering on some of this. Paddles are the next logical extension for me--Baumann has an adapter where you can map the controls to any interface (like paddles).

Let me know what you find out about the paddles on your end. I've looked into some over here and am waiting on some answers from potential vendors.

That would be awesome if it is possible...

Could the cruise control buttons be used instead of adding onto the steering wheel?

Baumann engineering states that their system maps to the cruise control by default. The adapter is for remapping it to another input device.

it would suck to accidentally shift to late though, especially if you have the boost dump disabled. its probably not good for consistency either. but it would be neato

Manual shift would not be a good idea for drag racing, but it would be great for road racing. One of the greatest challenges in road racing a Lightning is getting the transmission to downshift at the right point in the curve (or, rather, before the curve).
