Analyze my times. How did I do?

Hey guys and gals.......

I have had the L for about 3 months now and finally got to the 1/4 mile track, MIR up in Maryland. I went to a track rental day with a bunch of F-body guys......I was the only truck and the only Ford there........Anyways temps were around 72-73 so it was pretty nice out. My first couple of runs where on the street side of the chip. Came up with a couple of low 13s......like 13.1 and 13.2 at around 98 mph........So then I switched to the race side of the chip and here are my best two runs........What do you guys think. Am I about where I need to be? The only thing that felt kinda strange is that the power seemed to flatten off in 3rd gear at about 4k and above....??? By the way this was on F1's and full weight

............Best run.....................Second best
60'........1.881............................1.840
330.......5.353............................5.315
1/8........8.206............................8.186
MPH......85.71.............................84.76
1000.....10.744...........................10.760
1/4........12.943...........................12.990
MPH.......101.85...........................100.43

Thanks ALL,
Chris

Everything looks good to me, except your final mph..I would think with those times you should be running 104-106mph.Good job on the 60fts.

Good runs. You are right though, your mph should be a lot higher. A 100mph trap is pretty much what a stock L will trap. Everything looks good up to 1000' though.

With that 60' time and a 6 lb pulley, headers, etc., I would think your MPH should be higher too. See my 01's times in sig.

Was it running out of 'oomph' at the 1,000' mark?

Sorry, I just reread your post and it did flatten out. It should still be pulling hard at the traps.

Btw, very good 60' time on F1s I couldn't do that.

Dan

Thanks guys.........

The track was hooking really good yesterday......My cousin toasted his stock rear-end in his camero on the first run......And my best short time prior at a different track was 1.99......Like I said b4 the truck feels like its falling off at the end of the track.....Any ideas on what that might be????? pulls strong through rpm range in the first two gears but only till like 3500 or 4000 in 3rd.........

Thanks,
Chris

Just judging what others are doing with approximately the same mods, both et and speed are off. However, if you fix the top-end problem, you should pick up .10 - .20 in your et. Just looking at the two runs that you posted I noticed a few things. One is that your speed has a large fluctuation of 1.4 mph. Also, it looks like your power is dropping off at higher rpms. Your 60ft, 330 ft, and 1/8 times are all better on your 2nd best run, but it looks like you lost time at the top of 2nd gear because your speed is suddenly down by almost 1 mph. It looks like you progressively lost time after that.
This is all just conjecture, but it would lead me to suspect two things...first would be the fuel filter, and second would be heat saturation from the 6# pulley. If your intercooler isn't in tip-top shape (clean), and you don't have a powercooler or long cool down times, you can actually run slower with a 6# pulley than a 4#. If the intercooler can't keep the air cool enough, it will pull timing, run richer, and generally go flat. If you run in 50 degree weather and it really picks up mph, I would suspect the latter of the two. Also, this problem often won't show up on a single run on the dyno because of the short length of the pull, but might show a power loss in consecutive runs.

BTW, that's some great 60' times.

Thanks guys.....

.......LOCOSVT you are probably on to something....My runs were about 1/2 hour apart for the most part I dont have a power-cooler, and the truck has about 33k on it and the intercooler probably has never been cleaned....(Next project HUH!) The fuel filter was changed about 2 weeks ago.......The overdrive was off.......

I have been contemplating putting a 4lb on the truck just because of the 4lb said to be just as good as the 6lb but safer.....I'm all about that........Do you guys think I will need a retune after swapping to the 4lber........

Once again thanks for the replys.....keep em coming.

Later,
Chris

LOCOSVT Hit it right on the Head
But First
CONGRATS baker750
AND WELCOME TO THE

(with no Nitrous) I can tell you from personal experience
I had a problem braking into the 12's with 6lbs, when I backed it down to 4lb's, wam I was in and have ran consistant 12.7's +8's
every since, My current program is even more aggresive and should net me 12.5 give or take, but I'm having way too much fun with the Nitrous to go back to NO Nitrous runs, I'm loving the Juice and the 11's

What Loco is saying is true, when your running in warm weather, especially if you don't wait a good hour or so between run, the 6lbs can actually work against you. But I suspect you need a little more timing and thats why your MPH are down. You have more mods than me and should have much more HP. I've run multi 12.7's + 12.8's with a simple JLP Cool Air, JLP Diablo Chip, 4lb Lower, and an Accu-Fab. I do drive the streets on 6lbs 24/7,
but I still find better ET's and race with 4lbs. All my ET's are that way except for the recent 11.81, that was 6lb's + 75HP of N2O
(Had to get my 11, I cooled it down for @ 3-4 hours b-4 running)

Congrats again Baker,
AWESOME 60's, AWESOME RUNS, and the newest

Stock gearing it does not matter. You will NOT hit OD in the 1/4 mile

Thanks ROB.......

I should congradulate you also....On the 11's......You really know how to make someone feel welcome here on the site......

I guess the 4lber should go on the Xmas list now huh.....????? Along with the JLP cold air kit.

As far as the timing goes....I am not sure what the chip is programed for. When I got it done I had JL dattalog the truck and make it pretty "SAFE" It was about 50-55 degrees the day he did that so I never run the race side under 50 degrees. I will have to get in touch with him and find out what he set the timing at.......

Rob....I got a question if you read this......you say you run the 6lb 24/7 and the 4lb usually on the track right? Is that just for a little extra umph ....just in case somebody wants to try ya? What is the advantage of running a 6 on the street vs. the 4?

Thanks again
Chris

Is there an advantage running 6 on the street,
na prob not. I only do it cause I have it and want to get
some use out of it. I have a 4lb lower (that stays on 24/7)
and also a quik change upper (stock + 2lb pulley for it)
Like I said for my complete 1st summer I raced and raced and
raced each and every weekend and ran 13.1 - 13.3's for like
what seems like a million times (I WAS SOOOOOOOO PISSED)
Then one weekend I switched to Denso IT-22's from TR-6's,
and switched the upper to the stock size and wam, my 1st 12.
(12.8)

Done on F-1's, filter chip n 4lb, with no other Mods on pump gas.
The reason I realized my problem that day was because up to that point I was basically hot lapping everytime and only letting
it sit for 15 minutes to a 1/2 hour. That day the clock broke while I was in the staging lanes and I was stuck there for like 2 hours.
When I FINALLY made that 12 sec run I realized the heat and the xtra 2lbs was working against me up to that point. (remember I have NO cooiling Mods at all)

As for my thoughts on the street with the 6lbs, it really just to have more boost at less pedal. I truly don't kill it all that much on the streets anymore, I save that for the track and the juice.
Plus all my street driving is when it's cold. Cold morning start to work, cold afternoon start to home, etc....
But on many many ocassions, after making passes at the track, I switched to the 6lbs from 4, made another pass, and ran slower.
Even at Cecil after running the (2) 12.0's on 4lbs, I switched to 6lbs and then had hopping and traction issues, it just seems to hook better at the track on 4lbs. I had to get out of it twice during that run and only ended up with a 12.2.

Baker I see your in warmer climate (Virginia), unfortunatly you may not be able to run the timing I get away with here in cooler weather and at sea level. I can tell you that Johnny usually starts with a SAFE lower timing on his tunes. He started tuning for me once I installed the juice, and his first tunes for me were low on timing for both the Nitrous and the Gas programs. I wanted it that way to be safe. But after some testing I realized I needed more timing (It was feeling flat at top end during the runs)
He then made one simple re-burn and the rest is history
16 degrees for juice
18 degrees for 24/7 street driving

To tell you the truth though, I still haven't been able to run the 106 MPH since the 1st time on ALL GAS RUNS.
Look here's a faster et with 3 less MPH

I should note none of these were done on my current JLP Programs and they are clearly more aggresive than the ones I ran those et's with

Y our mph dose seen a little low, maybe if you got rid of thatr air box you may pick something up...maybe et and mph.I mean i cant really say though,i mean i did run an 12.75 with a chip and an air filter on f-1s.But i do thin that if you do get rid of that air boz youll pick up aome e.t. and mph.
